Easy To Create Holiday Cards [Week 4]

Happy Monday morning! 

Have you been following along with the Easy To Create Holiday Card series over at Two Peas? I don't know about you but now that Halloween is over I will be in full-on Christmas mode. Time to start thinking about those holiday cards! I normally send out photo cards as my annual Christmas card but I always like to have a stash of cards ready for last minute gifts, as thank you's for gifts, for neighbors, etc. These holiday ideas are perfect for those of you who create cards to send to everyone or for those of you like me, just need a few handmade Christmas cards.

September 10th Silhouette Release + Two Peas Challenge

I *heart* the Silhouette release today.

I mean, I love it every time but today's release, well, it's cool card bases (and I love, love, love making cards) and there's holiday dies and print & cuts (and I have teaching a class all year at Two Peas centering on seasonal holidays - Celebrate the Seasons) and these are perfect for so many projects.

I used one of the new Hero Arts cling stamps for this card. Just stamped it on white paper using the American Crafts Stamp Markers, filled in the design with colored pencils and then layered the scalloped border and greeting by stamping the design on the patterned paper with black ink, cutting out the elements and layering. Simple and easy.

Stampin' Fun Friday: Stamping with Markers + Ruffles

This week I want to share with you a technique that makes a world of difference when working with stamps like this Hero Arts Flower Branch with Owl stamp shown in the photo:

These stamps are super cute but look a little drab when just stamped on paper in a single color of ink. There's always the option of stamping on multiple patterns/colors of paper and paper piecing or coloring in the open areas with markers, colored pencils, etc. but what if you want to just stamp it in multiple colors at one time and be done? That is really hard to achieve with stamp pads but oh so easy with these fabulous new Stamp Markers from American Crafts.

To create this cute multi-colored stamped owl and branch I simply colored the rubber stamp with these markers, making sure I colored in the entire design. Then, I huffed (breathed on the stamp to remoisten the inks) and stamped it on some ledger paper. So simple and easy and with perfect results. It really makes intricate images like these come alive.

I used the same technique for the greeting. It's from a clear stamp set from Hero Arts. I simply colored in each word using a different color of marker and stamped it on the "label".

Ruffles are everywhere this season. I can't tell you how many items (J Crew anyone?) that I've picked up for my fall wardrobe this year that have a ruffle of some sort on them. I just can't get enough of the look and thought it would be a fun look to add to my scrapbooking and card making projects. 

The ruffles on my card were created by layering some gathered ribbons from American Crafts (you can just as easily ruffle your own ribbons by running a loose stitch through the center of a ribbon and pulling the threads to gather it a bit). I simple layered the ribbons, adhered my stamped piece over them and stapled it in place to secure it. So simple!

*note* I didn't create a video when I created this card so I don't have one to share today showing the stamp + marker technique. I will create a video over this long holiday weekend so that you can see it in action.

Heartfelt Wishes Card

Created this the other day using the watercolor technique with Ranger Distress Inks shown HERE. I am absolutely loving Jennifer McGuire's Thinking Inking Class. So fun.

I am not a very distress-y, vintage-y type girl so I am drawn more to the colorful distress inks: Worn Lipstick, Fired Brick, Peeled Paint, Spiced Marmalade were all used for this card. I threw in some Vintage Photo, too, since it's my favorite of the "brown" colors. :) 

I punched the hearts out of cream cardstock using a Stampin' Up Heart Punch and dipped them in watercolors made from the Worn Lipstick, Fired Brick & Spiced Marmalade distress inks and mini mister as Jennifer outlined in her video HERE.

I punched the butterflies out of the same cream cardstock and dipped them in a watercolor combination of Vintage Photo, Fired Brick and Worn Lipstick Distress inks.

The leaf branch was die cut out of cream cardstock using the Silhouette and I did the same watercolor technique on it using Peeled Paint and Spiced Marmalade Distress inks.

Stampin' Fun Friday: Father's Day + Stamped Paper Piecing

Welcome to another Stampin' Fun Friday!

It's time to start thinking about Father's Day and getting those cards made for loved ones. :)

This week I used a cute owl stamp from Hero Arts and stamped the image multiple times on different patterned papers and then cut out the different elements and pieces it all together. So easy and a great way to add some personality and a bit of "fun" to a stamped image.

I used scraps of paper from numerous projects that I had lying around for this card (no new 12x12 sheets of patterned paper/cardstock were harmed in the creation of this card). :)

The embossed square was leftover from a project I created for Hero Arts (pretty sure you will be seeing that on the Hero Blog and here next week)!

The die cut branch was leftover from another card for the Hero Blog (you can see it next week as well).

All the papers are from random cards/layouts I've created recently.

Card making is a GREAT way to use up all those scraps.

Celebrate the Seasons - June 2009

It's hard to believe that this is the sixth installment of my year long class, Celebrate the Seasons at Two Peas. 

I thought it only fitting that since we focused on moms with a Mother's Day layout last month that we celebrate dads this month with a Father's Day layout.

This month's layout was based on the following sketch that incorporates 10 photos in this 2-page spread:

I used one of the more recent Quickutz 12" Border dies as a place for my journaling rather than a frame for smaller photos. If you have more photos that you want to include on the layout then you could easily replace some of the journaling/embellishment blocks with small photos.

Another favorite item I used this month is the Nesting Label Die Shape. I have used these dies lots the last couple of weeks. They are all great sizes and so versatile and easy to use. I cut it twice: once from text paper and once out of patterned paper. The title was die cut using the Silhouette and the following downloadable design available for purchase for use with the Silhouette:

I used all American Crafts cardstock for my layout (in addition to the patterned papers). By the way, the American Crafts cardstock cuts amazing on the Silhouette. I just can't get enough of it. The colors are great and it cuts perfectly!

Cards For Heroes Memorial Day Weekend BLOG HOP

Happy Valentine's Day (a little late).

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day. We didn't do much here. Both Chad and I really enjoy staying home and enjoying some quiet time on Valentine's Day. Chad worked most of the day so I prepared one of his favorite meals as a special treat and nice way to let him know how much I love him. :) We weren't going to give one another gifts but of course he treated me to a couple of new Le Crueset cookware pieces that I had been eyeing (they are RED so that is sort of Valentine's-ish, right?). And then there were these that were delivered in the morning. Gorgeous. :) (Payton got a half dozen pink roses from daddy, as well. She was on top of the world!)

I just wanted to share the kid's Valentine's that they gave to their classmates last Friday. I purchased these treat bags at Target and we filled them with candy and created bag toppers out of scrapping supplies I had lying around here.

The Sizzix Stampin' Up Bigz Top Note Die worked perfectly for the treat bag topper. We just cut them out of white cardstock and embossed them with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder before folding in half lengthwise and stapling to the top of the bag.

Then we punched scalloped circles out of scrap pieces of red and pink patterned papers and punched smaller circles from white cardstock to adhere in the center of the scalloped circle. We punched hearts using the Stampin' Up Heart to Heart punch and adhered them to each for a sweet accent and then the kids wrote on the tag before adhering them to each of the treat bags. :) Simple and easy.

And since I'm sharing all things love here today, the mid-month Garden went up at 2Peas today. :) Here's one of my shares for the 'love theme'. Sorry about the crummy scan.

This layout is currently in a shadowbox frame in my living room so we can enjoy it throughout the Valentine's holiday. :)
