Scrapbook Stamping | December 2011

I can't believe that this is the final month of Scrapbook Stamping at Two Peas in a Bucket. My third year-long class complete. Whew! Even though I won't be continuing this class at 2Peas in 2012, I will be offering similarly themed class(es) through other venues throughout this next year so stay tuned for more information on that after the first of the year!

Now, how about some scrapbook stamping?

This month we're focusing on creating your own stamped patterned paper using stamps, inks, mists, etc.

My favorite thing about this technique is that the possibilities are endless. You can create all kinds of custom patterned papers, using supplies you already have on hand, that perfectly match your photos and theme of your page.

p.s. My page is not all wonky lop-sided like you see here in the photo. There is actually a thin band of kraft showing all the way across the top of the page. Bad page photography at work here. Sorry about that!

December Sketch:

I really, really love the look of paper lines that incorporate color on kraft paper. Think Jiliibean Soup, American Crafts, My Mind's Eye, just to name a few.

The Jillibean Soup holiday line from 2010 is what really inspired me on this page. I wanted a kraft background with a snow theme and blue/pink/brown color combo but I didn't have anything like that on hand. Not to worry! With some Hero Arts stamps + kraft cardstock + spray mists I created my own patterned paper!

Here you can see a little peak at my stamped patterned paper peeking out at the bottom of the page where I punched a circle from the top layer (see video for how to). I thought this was the perfect place to add my title. A little different, a lot fun!

And even though the focus of the page was on creating the gorgeous stamped kraft patterned paper background, I couldn't resist stamping some matching embellishments to create this really cook snowflake heart border. Love how my accents perfectly match my page.

Close up of journaling. I did lightly add just a touch of Studio Calico White Mister Huey to my journaling. I love how that reinforces the "snowy" theme of my page.

I though Amy Tangerine's lovely fabric brad with the lace doily made a great "snowflake-looking" addition to my sticker phrase and journaling block.

Scrapbook Stamping | November 2011

Welcome November!

This month's Scrapbook Stamping class features paper piecing stamped images to create beautiful works of art for your scrapbook pages. The use of stamps makes the paper piecing technique super easy. The addition of glitter, spray mists and other small embellishments or supplies will add even more detail and dimension to your stamped paper pieced creations!

This month I chose to create a photo-free layout. I don't do many layouts that don't have at least one photo but I thought it would be nice to show how to create a beautifully embellished page whether you use photos or not.

If you have been a blog follower of mine for awhile you might have seen that I keep an album that features the holiday cards and photo cards we receive from friends and family every year. In the last couple of years I have received some stunning handmade cards that I can't bare to part with and so I have gone to creating pocket page layouts to house these cards. November Sketch:

Consider replacing the memorabilia with photos to make the sketch design work for you!

I used the coordinating Hanging Ornaments digital die cut download from Hero Arts to die cut the shape from some of the cream MME patterned paper before stamping the dies with the matching stamp.

I stamped the design on additional MME Lost & Found Christmas papers from the 6x6 paper pad, cut the designs out, pieced the larger ornament together and added Stickles glitter glue to add sparkle, shine and dimension to my stamped embellishments.

The glittered chipboard title coordinates nicely with the rest of the glittered accent border. I placed foam adhesive underneath it to give it some depth on my page.

I used PTI Rustic Twine and silk ribbon to create an elegant bow. To hide the foam dot adhesive, I cut the shank off the back of this Tim Holtz button (using Tim's scissors) and then glued it in place using Glossy Accents. I just set something heavy on top for about a half hour so that the glue would set and my button wouldn't budge. ;)

I used the pre-printed/glittered accent on my background paper as the perfect place to print my journaling for my page. I sometimes find these types of patterned papers difficult to work around but if you can find a way to incorporate the element into your page design it is so worth it! October's Scrapbook Stamping Class @2Psinabucket

Hey everyone!

Sorry about the video not going "live" over the weekend. There was a small glitch and it didn't get switched over to "public" until this a.m. I was out of town and didn't have youtube access. It is up now HERE! Yay!

Also, I wanted to share that the amazing Amy Tangerine is sharing a step-by-step of her guest designer layout for this month's class HERE. She is simply amazing. I love seeing her process broken down. :)

 

 

Scrapbook Stamping | October 2011

October's Scrapbook Stamping class features creating a stamped "scene" on your scrapbook pages. You may stamp a lot of scenes on your cards and it's super fun and easy to use your stamps the same way on your layouts!

October's Sketch:

To create the dimensional stamped "scene" on my layout, I stamped the Silly Scape stamp from Hero Arts on four subtle patterned papers, cut out the individual buildings and pieced the design back together on my layout. Then I added stamped clouds and a stamped "sun" created from a circle stamp (see video for how to).

For my title, I combined a couple of designs by Loni Stevens from the Silhouette Online Store:

The photo collage is a template from the 2Peas store (linked below in the supply list). I purposely left some of the photos on their sides instead of cropping them for a vertical presentation. I wanted the collage to be just that, a collage and I didn't want to lose any of the photograph so left them "as is".

SEPTEMBER SCRAPBOOK STAMPING

September's Scrapbook Stamping class features stamping on vellum/fabric/canvas/felt/etc.

One of my most favorite techniques is stamping on vellum with white ink. I love the effect and chose to feature it on my layout. Vellum softens the look of whatever you layer it over and the translucent effect looks lovely when stamped on with white ink.

Here's the sketch that accompanies this month's class. 

The emphasis of this page is definitely on the white ink stamping on vellum, however I needed something for the top right corner of the page. This cute stacked Halloween words die cut from the Silhouette Online Store does the trick. It adds to the theme of the design and serves as a title/embellishment for the page.

One of my very favorite ways to add white stamping on vellum is with a text border. Not only does this text border serve as a great sub-title for the page but it adds to the page's Halloween theme and gives additional details about the photos (i.e. the date of the event).

Instead of filling an entire collage/grid with photos, I left several "empty" spaces that I filled in with 2x3" squares of patterned paper with stamped vellum overlays on top. Layering some cardstock stickers under the vellum adds to the depth and dimension without adding bulk. A few randomly placed gems add sparkle.

Scrapbook Stamping | August 2011

It's time for another new class lesson in my 2Peas year-long class, Scrapbook Stamping.

August's class features resist techniques.

Resist is one of those techniques that is just plain fun to do!

A few of my favorite products for resist stamping are:

• Distress Inks applied with the Ranger Ink Blending Tool (like Teri & Laura did on their layouts)
• Distress Stains (like Jennifer used on her page)
• Ink Mists (like I did on my layout below)

Here's the sketch that accompanies this month's class. 

For my title I wanted to show how easy and fun it is to add texture and color to a die cut title with resist and spray ink. I die cut the title using my Silhouette:

I cut the design from plain white smooth cardstock (Neenah).

For the word "summer", I used the Hero Arts Stripes background cling stamp with Versamark ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. You could use any color of embossing powder for resist but I really love the look of white for this layout. Then I used the Orchard and Schoolhouse Studio Calico Spray Inks to add color. The embossed stamped image "resists" the ink. The ink will bead up on the embossed areas and color in anything not embossed. Pretty cool! I simply wiped off the excess ink with a baby wipe.

I love using spray inks to add color to plain die cut or punched shapes as well. The word "vacation" in the title was sprayed with the Classic Calico spray ink for instant color. No searching for the perfect color of cardstock or paper to match my layout. With this technique you can cut a bunch of designs from one sheet of white cardstock and color each of them to perfectly match any design!

I also added the Calico White spray ink to the 6x6 kraft square to give it more of a "distressed" look that matches the rest of the page.

To create the custom stamped resist 3x3 squares around the perimeter of the design, I cut 3 squares from Neenah white cardstock and followed pretty much the same steps as for the title only using text based designs for the accent squares.

When spraying the squares, I didn't cover them completely with ink, for a more distressed look. I love that with spray ink you can spray as light or heavy as you want for different looks. I didn't wipe off the excess ink right away but rather set the squares aside to dry a little before wiping off the excess ink. 

Once the squares were completely dry (you could speed this up with a heat gun if you're impatiend like me!) I used an old Studio Calico coffee stain stamp to add additional detailing and distressing. Anywhere that is stamped and embossed resists this ink as well! Then I stamped small phrases to further add to the design.

Finally I used the stamped resist technique on these Tim Holtz die cut butterflies. I stamped each with a leaf cluster from the Hero Arts stamp set linked below, heat embossed with white embossing powder and added color with Studio Calico spray inks. (See the video below for specific how-to's on all the stamped resist examples). 

I added photo turns for the butterfly bodies. Not only do the metal accents add texture but they are a fun alternative and perfect for adding a butterfly "body" to a die cut butterfly!

Scrapbook Stamping | July 2011 @2Psinabucket

It's the first of the month which means it's time for a new class for my FREE year long class at 2Peas, Scrapbook Stamping!

July's Scrapbook Stamping class features creating your own stamped backgrounds. 

It is so easy to create your own custom, handmade stamped backgrounds. A few of my favorite ways to achieve this look are stamping the same image repeatedly (like Ali did HERE & Kelly did HERE), using a combination of stamps for a background (like my page for this month below) and using background stamps (like Robyn did on her layout HERE). 

I combined five Hero Arts floral stamps to create the custom floral background strip that perfectly coordinates with the Jillibean Soup patterned papers on the rest of my page.

Here's the sketch that accompanies this month's class. 

For my title, I had originally thought I would use the die cut "as is" but it just wasn't working out like I wanted. I couldn't figure out what color I wanted to die cut it from and I held off actually adhering it until I was practically finished putting the page together (something I rarely do). Then I noticed I had some Studio Calico mist inks still sitting on my desk from a recent layout and thought I might try misting the title. I tried that and didn't just love it but I noticed that I did love the look left in the box where I had sprayed the ink once I lifted the title up. The negative "space" or part of the title. I temporarily adhered the title, masked off the rest of my page and spritzed SC's Apple Jack Mister Huey Ink and then Calico White. I let it sit a couple of minutes and then lifted up the title and voila! a very subtle and inky title! :)

To create the custom stamped background I first started with a 6x12" piece of smooth white cardstock. I really think that a smooth, flat surface is the key to getting clean and crisp stamped images for a project like this. (I used a white cardstock from Stampin' Up)

I then stamped all the large and small Hero Arts solid flowers using a variety of ink colors from Stampin' Up:

• Regal Rose
• Poppy Parade
• Peach Parfait
• Daffodil Delight
• Wild Wasabi
• Marina Mist

Then I stamped the large and small Hero Arts Open flowers using Stampin' Up Soft Suede ink.

I filled in some of the "white space" with the tiny, tiny floral that perfectly matches (from Hero Arts Many Dots Stamp Set).

What I love about this technique is that you can create a custom background that perfectly matches your photos, your page. This is great when you can't find (or don't want to buy) a paper that matches your page.

Because this is a stamping class, I even stamped my journaling spots (Ali Edwards Who What Where Stamp Set). Again, I used colorful ink. I think the use of colored ink really adds a lot of detail to a page, more like a pre-made embellishment. And the great thing about these journaling spots? I will never run out. I can stamp these as many times, in as many colors as I want to!
