Silhouette + SEI = Print & Cut Flower Card

I have another SEI + Silhouette card to share with you today. For this card, I used the Silhouette's Print & Cut feature to die cut the flower three times so that I got a really nice layered flower. I used foam adhesive under some of the petals to give them a bit of dimension. The label is another SEI Silhouette design and I also incorporated a stem and leaf + the fringe grass Silhouette designs by Loni Stevens.

What I like about this particular Print & Cut flower design is that it almost appears to be a stamped flower but without all the work. I just resized the flower and copied and pasted it twice to make three designs and then followed the steps for cutting a Print & Cut image. Super easy!

Silhouette + SEI = elegant thank you card

Last week the Silhouette Blog featured designs showcasing both SEI and Silhouette. I have several projects to share over the next few days that I didn't get to last week, starting with one of my favorite color combinations: aqua + gray + pink.

I used the negative part of this SEI Silhouette Die Cut image by opening up the card shape in my Craft Robo software (card_heart_0920), ungrouping the image and replacing the heart with the SEI Die Cut design (blossoms_C00004_27011). After the card was cut out, I cut a piece of aqua patterned paper slightly smaller than the front of the card and adhered it behind the die cut design. I added a coordinating thin strip of aqua patterned paper along the bottom of the card, stamped the greeting and added a ribbon tied into a bow with a button accent.

Grow (a Dear Lizzy Silhouette layout)

I am so tickled that American Crafts is lending it's designs to the Silhouette store. I used several Dear Lizzy die cut shapes on this layout of my daughter as a toddler. The fence, clothesline, title, bird and hearts and flowers are all Dear Lizzy die cuts.

To give the boat some texture, I replaced some of the die cut pieces with buttons and a brad. I cut multiples of the wave and inked a couple with the Tumbled Glass Distress Ink for color variation.
  I replaced the eye on the seagull die cut with a gemstone for a fun touch.

 Because I enjoy making and giving cards as much as scrapbooking, I love how you can cut almost any design small enough to make cute accents for cards.

Adore Cherish (a 2peas layout) + a Silhouette Mother's Day card

I hope all you moms had a wonderful Mother's Day yesterday. 

I had the best weekend spent with my family. No commitments, no running around. We simply enjoyed each other. We saw Iron Man 2 on Saturday, cooked some good food, attended a high school graduation party for the son of one of our friends and then my sweet husband made breakfast on Sunday, cleaned and surprised me with a fun girls weekend trip later this month with some of the most fabulous girlfriends I know. I can't wait.

I made this card for the Silhouette Blog last week. My momma ended up getting this card yesterday. :)

The "base" of the card is the flower pot. The green "leaves" is the background. The flowers are attached to it. The hodgepodge of different patterned papers is something that happens a lot when I make cards as I almost always go through my scrap file to find papers that coordinate instead of cutting up a brand new piece of 12x12 paper. :) I also die cut the tag from ledger paper and stamped a greeting.

 

The flower insert pulls out to reveal another stamped message. I think these flower pot cards are so clever and fun.

Favorite Technique (Silhouette Sketch + Copic Markers Card)

This week the Silhouette Blog is featuring Favorite Techniques.

Currently I am addicted to coloring in the sketch images with my Copic Markers. I love how the sketch images sort of give a "stamped" look. As an added bonus, the Silhouette cuts the image out for me, no scissors needed!

Here is a card i made using the sketch feature on the Silhouette:

I used the sketch feature to sketch or "draw" the floral label on Neenah Solar White Cardstock. I use this cardstock for almost everything. It is a recommended paper for use with Copic Markers. 

Once the image was sketched I left the paper in my Silhouette, ungrouped the image and changed the color of the outside cut line. That way I could choose that color to cut and the Silhouette ONLY cut the outside line. For more information on how to do this, check out Kerri's tutorial on the Silhouette Blog HERE.

Now I had a perfectly cut and sketched image to color. :)

I colored the image in, added some glitter pen for subtle sparkle, embellished with gems, ribbon and a stamped greeting, then adhered one half of the label to one of the flaps on the die cut card. 

Easy peasy!

 

To complete the card, I stamped a sentiment on the inside as well for a nice finished look.

say it with style (a Silhouette font heavy layout)

This week the Silhouette Blog is focussing on fonts. In fact, the fonts in the Silhouette store are 30% off this week! The best thing about the Silhouette fonts: they aren't just for the Silhouette. When you download them they automatically go to your font folder and you can use them for journaling, printed titles - just like a regular font. So awesome!

I used two of the Silhouette fonts: LD Candid and LD Timely for the title on my layout. Notice how the die cut title takes center stage and the embellishments are minimal.

Q&A (a Silhouette Layout)

This week the Silhouette Blog is featuring layouts centered around Q&A style journaling and today it was my turn to share an idea for incorporating Q&A journaling on a scrapbook layout.

I have to admit, at first I was stumped with how I wanted to begin but now I can't jot down ideas for this type of journaling fast enough.

I chose to feature some questions I created for my daughter to answer and here's the layout. 

I think this is one of those pages that could be done yearly to document changes in things that are your favorites and would be treasured years from now.

To make the rectangular tags:

1. Create a new document in a word processing program. Make sure to make the background transparent.
2. Create text layers for the questions and answers. Flatten layers and save somewhere easy to find it. (I save it on my desktop to make it easy to import into the Craft Robo software).
3. Drag image into Craft Robo software to open it. Open rectangular tabs, ungrouping and deleting any unnecessary components. 
4. Copy and paste tags over each Q&A.
5. Print images on patterned paper just as you would a Silhouette Print & Cut image.
6. Cut image using Silhouette following same steps as a Silhouette Print & Cut image.

3D Flowers (a Silhouette Layout)

For this week's Monday Cafe over on the Silhouette Blog I'm sharing how to use some 3D flower designs on a layout instead of a 3D project. I adore these flower designs by Rivka Wilkins and used them for a bright and colorful layout featuring my daughter.

How To:

1. First, cut seeral tags for the background. Mine were 4.75" in height.
2. Add stamping with Versamark ink and emboss with clear powder. Add distress ink to coor the tags using blending applicator.
3. Resize 3D flower designs to fit on the tags.
4. Cut the designs from patterned papers. Add distressing with Vintage Photo ink.
5. Adhere each layer with glue dots and secure all layers with a button sewn on in the middle.
6. Add a foam adhesive square to th back of each floral and adhere to a tag.

Create Easter '09 Layout

I am just finally starting to wrap my mind around the fact that this coming Sunday is actually Easter. For some reason I really feel like the holiday has snuck up on me this year.
