Stampin' Fun Friday (Stamping Resist Butterfly Accents)

This week's Stampin' Fun Friday features a layout with stamped and ink resist butterflies, die cut with a Sizzix Big Shot.

Easy and fun way to create your own embellishments for layouts and/or cards.

The design of this layout was based on Kelly Purkey's Sketchbook 2, Sketch #6.

I kept pretty close to the original sketch. I don't do many one-photo layouts but this page didn't really require any additional photos. I filled the empty space with the butterfly accents. The sketch had room for 9 additional tiny, tiny square photos or embellishments.

I chose the embellishments.

For my title, I used Kerri Bradford's Sidenote Digi Download Kit, available HERE.

I used the large rounded corner rectangle and Print & Cut title, but didn't use the overlay. I tried and tried to make it work and it just didn't on this page. I ended up cutting that rounded rectangle twice and using one above the butterfly accents (with the title) and one below and substituted my journaling for the title.

The butterflies were created by stamping the Hero Arts Flowers and Leaves stamp on white cardstock with Versamark, embossing with clear powder and then die cutting multiple butterflies from it.

Then I used Tim Holtz Distress Inks and the Ink Blending tool to add color to the butterflies. The embossed images "resist" the inks.

Making the Most of Die Cutting Machines | August 2010 + Another Die Cut Layout!

This month over at Two Peas I am sharing ideas on implementing DigiKit Download Die Cut files and designs into your paper crafting. The best thing about these types of download files, in my opinion, is that they work with most, if not all, of the digital die cut machines out there. That is awesome. These fabulous designs aren't limited to just one craft cutter. I am all about everyone getting using the same designs. :)

Silhouette Print & Cut + Stamping (a birthday card)

I created this a couple of weeks ago and hadn't gotten around to sharing it. It features Silhouette Print & Cut Designs by SEI (the presents), regular cut designs by SEI (the layered label), Hero Arts background stamps and a Stampin' Up greeting stamp.

Supplies:  

• Daffoldil Folded Cards by Hero Arts
• Poppy Layering Papers by Hero Arts
• Snow Layering Papers by Hero Arts
• Cling Friend Definition Stamp by Hero Arts
• Cling Dots Remountable Rubber Cling Stamp by Hero Arts

Instructions:

1. Trim Daffodil Hero Arts card to 4 1/4" square.
2. Stamp background (front of card) with Cling Dots Hero Arts stamp and Wild Honey Distress Ink.
3. Die cut the label using the Silhouette SD to fit the front of card.
4. Stamp the Poppy die cut label with the Friend Definition Stamp by Hero Arts and Wild Honey Distress Ink.
5. Adhere White and Daffodil layers on top of stamped label.
6. Stamp greeting with Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set and Soft Suede ink by Stampin' Up.
7. Wrap ribbon around stacked labels and secure with the Tiny Attacher.
8. Tie a bow from ribbon and adhere on top of label as shown.
9. Use the Silhouette's Print & Cut feature to print and die cut the SEI presents.
10. Adhere the P&C images with foam adhesive.
11. Add detailing to the presents with Ranger Glossy Accents.
12. Round corners of card with Corner Chomper Crop-a-dile.

I am addicted to the Wild Honey Distress Ink. I find myself reaching for it over and over. Such a perfect color. :)

Silhouette + SEI = Print & Cut Flower Card

I have another SEI + Silhouette card to share with you today. For this card, I used the Silhouette's Print & Cut feature to die cut the flower three times so that I got a really nice layered flower. I used foam adhesive under some of the petals to give them a bit of dimension. The label is another SEI Silhouette design and I also incorporated a stem and leaf + the fringe grass Silhouette designs by Loni Stevens.

What I like about this particular Print & Cut flower design is that it almost appears to be a stamped flower but without all the work. I just resized the flower and copied and pasted it twice to make three designs and then followed the steps for cutting a Print & Cut image. Super easy!

Making the Most of Die Cutting Machines | April 2010

Finally!

I am so, so sorry that the class was super late this month. I really appreciate everyone's patience. 

Without further ado here is April's class on the Silhouette's Print & Cut feature:

You all know I am passionate about the Silhouette. The P&C feature is my favorite of the special features. I use it all the time.

All the embellishments (except for the buttons) on this page were created with the Silhouette. Love that.

The "one awesome dude" tab, phrase, "never enough" tag, clocks and tab are all Print & Cuts.

The circle border (out of black cardstock) is a regular cut Silhouette design. 

The how to video has tips on resizing P&C images, changing the shape of cut lines (I changed the rounded corners on the phrase die cut to a square), using P&C images with regular cut images and making your own P&C's.

Q&A (a Silhouette Layout)

This week the Silhouette Blog is featuring layouts centered around Q&A style journaling and today it was my turn to share an idea for incorporating Q&A journaling on a scrapbook layout.

I have to admit, at first I was stumped with how I wanted to begin but now I can't jot down ideas for this type of journaling fast enough.

I chose to feature some questions I created for my daughter to answer and here's the layout. 

I think this is one of those pages that could be done yearly to document changes in things that are your favorites and would be treasured years from now.

To make the rectangular tags:

1. Create a new document in a word processing program. Make sure to make the background transparent.
2. Create text layers for the questions and answers. Flatten layers and save somewhere easy to find it. (I save it on my desktop to make it easy to import into the Craft Robo software).
3. Drag image into Craft Robo software to open it. Open rectangular tabs, ungrouping and deleting any unnecessary components. 
4. Copy and paste tags over each Q&A.
5. Print images on patterned paper just as you would a Silhouette Print & Cut image.
6. Cut image using Silhouette following same steps as a Silhouette Print & Cut image.

Good Times (a TwoPeas layout)

I've had these cute photos of my oldest two kiddos for-evah. As much as I wanted to use them, I was having a hard time getting them to work together. They are from my pre-digital days. Three vertical photos and one horizontal. I played and played with the composition and finally opted to crop all photos to 4"x4" and voila! The layout just came together! Love that!

I worked on the right side of the layout first. I die cut four postage stamp "frames" using the Silhouette. and adhered them right next to each other in the center of the layout. I added some pink patterned paper strips underneath where the frames met one another just to make them "pop" a bit.

For the left side of the layout I die cut a large title and a cute bird design using the Silhouette. I lightly sprayed the birds with some Maya Mist for a bit of sparkle. I stamped a bunch of word bubbles, cut them out, layered them and adhered some with pop dots. I just love word bubbles right now. Can't get enough of them.

Cosmo Cricket + Silhouette

Good Monday morning!

I attended a Copic Marker certification class yesterday in Kansas City. I came away from the class with a much better understanding of the markers, the numbering system, how to choose colors that work well together and lots and lots and lots of ideas on how to use them to make them most of my investment. And thank you EllenHutson.com because I ordered a bunch of "must have" marker colors this a.m. The air compressor airbrush system is next! ;)

I have received several requests wanting to know what colors of Copics are must have's. I am by no means (at all!) an expert. However, on Friday, I will be sharing some of the tips and tricks I learned at the class on choosing colors and what I like. Plus if everything goes according to plan, I'll share something I stamped and colored. The class opened my eyes to what you really need (don't go buy sets!!!) and I want to pass along that info to all of you. Sound good?

The Sugar, Spice and Flowers are all Print & Cut designs. Love that you can resize these to fit your project. The sugar and spice were cut at 1" height and 3/4" height respectively so they appear to be "sitting" on the shelf. The smallest flower die cut from the set was used as an embellishment on the die cut sewing machine (looks like a knob, right?!!?).

The title was created by die cutting the title twice: once from the teal patterned paper and once from the brown. Then I layered them, slightly offset, for a shadowed look and adhered the whole thing using foam adhesive. Simple and easy!

One more thing, that apron my daughter is wearing...I made that for her a couple of weeks ago. It's an adorable Paisley Pincusion pattern. Fabrics were all purchased at Hobby Lobby. She was tickled to have an apron that fits her. :)

Silhouette Blog (Texturized Layout):

How To:

1. Color block background with 1 - 4x6 photo, a strip of 3 - 2x3 photos, 3x4 piece of paper and a 6x6 piece of paper with 6x6 vellum overlay. Machine stitch around color blocked background.
2. Resize snowman shape to 6" tall and cut from white AC Cardstock. (snowman_C00143_19547)                                       
3. Resize snowflakes (snowflake_doily_C00145_19547 & snowflake_doily_2_C00144_19547) to 3", 2.5" & 2.25" and cut from white AC Cardstock.                                                                                                                                                        
   
     
4. Run snowman and two of the snowflakes through Epic Six using the Cuttlebug Tiny Bubbles embossing folder to add texture.
5.  Print journaling on the remaining (largest) snowflake die cut.
6. Cut ribbon weaving scalloped border (essential_ribbon_weaving_strips_C000283_20509) from Bella Blvd. paper.             
7. Weave white satin ribbon through die cut, tie in a bow and secure ends with Tiny Attacher. Add button embellishment to center of bow.
8. Die cut snowman again using the same brown patterned paper used for ribbon weaving. (I die cut them both at the same time). Cut hat from design and adhere over embossed snowman. Add tiny florals & brad to the hat. Sew mismatched black buttons on for the eyes. Add black gems for mouth. Trim "scarf" from snowman die cut and replace with ribbon scarf.
9. Die cut title (love_C00025_19547) from blue cardstock. Remove inside cutting lines and cut again from vellum. Layer cardstock design on vellum and adhere to layout as shown.                                                                                                   
10. Stamp date on October Afternoon label sticker and adhere as shown.
11. Cut phrase from Bella Blvd. paper and adhere to title block as shown.
12. Print & Cut tab (documenting_life_sideline_tabs_C00107_19547) and adhere above title block. Add CTMH photo turn for embellishment.                                                                                                                                                                          
13. Sew buttons to embossed snowflakes and adhere to layout.
