September 2nd... seriously? Hard to believe that summer is all but over. Chad and I just discussed having the pool winterized this morning on our way home from dropping the big kids off at school. The weather is all over the place right now and we've barely been in the 90's for a couple of weeks. I am ready for Fall. It's my absolutely favorite season. I love the changing colors of leaves, pumpkins, apples, cooler weather (but not cold), the smell of a fireplace burning, homemade chili on the stove, hot chocolate, the sound of a football game on t.v. (although I rarely watch!), Halloween, Thanksgiving and 3 out of the 5 of us celebrate birthdays in the Fall. :)
I meant to get these layouts posted yesterday but I was busy finishing up last minute things for my September Celebrate the Seasons class that is set to go live on the 5th! I am really tickled with how this month's class came together and I have already started on October's and November's classes! I know, I know... me working so far ahead? CRAZINESS! I can't believe I only have 3 more classes to prepare for this class this year. It has been a blast and I have gotten so many seasonal celebrations scrapped!
September's Garden theme is: Found Objects.
I will admit when I first saw this I though, "WHAT am I going to do?". I tend to be a "throw away-er". I purge everything regularly, not just my scrap supplies. I hate clutter and so I don't keep a lot of "found objects" or so I thought. You know how I've been on a huge "vacation/travels scrapping kick (lots of my layouts I've been sharing are travel themed lately)"... well I realized I have quite a bit of really great paraphernalia from our travels and it makes great "found objects"! So not only do I get my travel layouts scrapped I get to include those mementoes and items I've collected from our travels! Love that.
Here's one of those travel-themed, found object layouts (the other will be shared on the 15th of the month!):
These are some older photos taken back in April of 2000 (I have a lot of travel scrapping to catch up on!). I used the brochure from Arlington National Cemetery as part of the layout design. I made decorative notches with my MM notch tool and embellished them with tiny, tiny mini brads (CTMH) and then slipped the brochure under the notches. I didn't put the brads through the brochure because I want to still be able to remove it and look at it but by adhering it this way it becomes part of the page design and part of the title (or subtitle).

For my Product Focus layout I created another vacation layout, this one from a trip to Disney, using the Doodlebug Bon Bon Spot Flock Paper. I wanted to include all (or at least most) of the photos taken from the Animal Kingdom Theme Park on one two-page spread. I knew it would be a lot of photos but I still wanted to add some interest to the layout. I love the logo for Disney's Animal Kingdom:
I wanted to create something similar for my layout so I came up with this design using a Silhouette digital design tree and anima digital die cut designs:
Even though this layout features 17 photos I was able to include lot of embellishment. Because the Doodlebug Bon Bon Chenille Spot Flock Paper is quite thick it won't cut easily on the Silhouette. To still get the great tree die cut design, I first die cut the trunk on a piece of scrap paper and used it as a template to cut the tree out by hand. So easy. I used MM flocked floral paper for the "tree" and it is a thinner material and cut perfectly using the Silhouette.
I love the Doodlebug specialty papers for die cutting. Because these papers tend to be a bit more money then a regular sheet of scrapbook paper I like to get as much from a sheet as possible and many times I die cut them to do just that.

And how about I leave you today with a sneak peek of September's Celebrate the Seasons class? Have a great Wednesday!
