Happy Tuesday!
Welcome to Day 2 of Holiday Blog Reader Appreciation Week!
Today I have a project for you that has literally been in my head since I saw these Whiff of Joy Nativity stamps. I used masking and Copic Marker coloring to make a framed piece for our home for the holidays.
And I love it.
I adore nativities so this hand crafted one will fit in nicely with my collection.
- I had to alter Joseph to work with my scene. He comes holding Baby Jesus. But I really wanted to use Jesus in the manger (plus what would Mary being kneeling next to if Joseph is holding the baby?) so I had to work around that and now it appears he is just holding a blanket. I wish he was holding a staff or something more traditional but alas no one asked me. Can you believe that? ha!
- If I was proficient with my air compressor at all I would have added some airbrushing around my scene. But I just got it and I need a bit of practice and didn't want to ruin the hours of stamping/masking/coloring with some ill-performed airbrushing. I may still add it (I kept all my masks) at a later time.
- Be patient. I stamped this wrong four times. Four. I bet you all are wondering about coming back for more tutorials this week after hearing that sad news, huh? ;) I was tired. That's the excuse I'm going to go with. The stamping/masking is the worst part. The coloring was a breeze and was actually fun.
- Keep your masks. Seriously. If you put that much for into cutting out something, hold onto it for future endeavors!
- Don't think you have to use Copic Markers to color in your images. Consider colored pencils, Twinkling H2O's, watercolors, other markers, etc. I use Copics because that is what I'm good at. Those Twinkling H2O's scare the snot out of me even thoough I love the look. I really would like to try this same scene with watercolors. I imagine it would be lovely and soft-looking.

HOW TO
I'm going to warn you now that there are three videos for this project. The reason being that I've had numerous requests to show the Copic Coloring in real time or close to it. I ended up still needing to speed it up quite a bit or else you might be here for an hour watching the coloring and that is simply boring. I tried not to ramble on too much during the coloring videos but I don't think I was very successful! ha!

A BIT OF ENABLING
I finally broke down and bought the Fiskars Cloud Punches.
I tried to resist.
Really I did.
But, they needed to be MINE.
You guys know me and the clouds.
Both sizes of punches are in stock at 2Peas now. Snatch them quick. I suspect they won't last long!
