For some reason boy birthday cards are some of the hardest ones for me to make. Maybe it's because I tend to gravitate more towards girly flowery cards or maybe up until lately my stash of boy-themed product and stamps was sorely lacking. Well, not any longer! I have slowly but surely been building up my boy-related product stash and mostly that's been due to Papertrey Ink!
Several months ago, PTI had a month where they focused on the boys and men in our life with their stamp release and now I have been creating masculine cards easily!
Two of my nephews celebrated birthdays earlier this month and my 1 year old nephew got THIS card that I created for Lawn Fawn a few months back and my 10 year old nephew got this card:
For the background I stamped a piece of Hero Arts Azure layering paper with the Graph Background Design Block Stamp using Stampin' Up Pacific Point Ink. Then I stamped the frame from PTI Framed Stamp Set using Memories Black Ink. Then I added some grunge using PTI's Grunge Me Stamp Set and Colorbox Frost White Ink. I love the way the frost white ink looks on the bright blue background.
To give the video game controller stamped image (PTI Boy Basics Game On) a little more dimension, I stamped the image three times: once in SU Real Red, once in SU Daffodil Delight and once in SU Pacific Point Ink. Using a small circle punch, I punched out parts of the design and layered them on one of the video game controller stamped images.
I die cut the Mat Stack 3 die from kraft cardstock and stamped it with a coordinating stamp using Frost White Ink. I stamped the video game controller on the card using Memories Black Ink and adhered the die cut to the card as shown.
I die cut the Ad Sense die from Rustic White cardstock and stamped the coordinating stamp with SU Real Red Ink and the greeting with SU Soft Suede Ink, then adhered this layer to the card.
Finally I finished by cutting out the video game controller, adding gems and adhering it to the card.
A little stamping on the inside of the card is the perfect finishing touch!
FYI: The last day to register and be included in our massive drawing for goodies is this Friday, 9/30.

Q: However, I noticed that bazzil cardstock does not cut well. I think you have mentioned AC paper. Where do you get your AC paper?
A: I have found that overall AC cardstock consistantly cuts the best. I used to get it from 2Peas and haven't bought any in awhile and now I don't see it anymore! I did a search and it looks like scrapbook.com is selling it. It does come in paper packs, not individual sheets.
(I'm getting questions about the deadline for registering for The Spawn of True Scrap & for the bonus class offer from me. See details HERE.)
Q: How long will this offer stay up?
A: You can register for The Spawn of True Scrap until the day the event starts (October 20). I will offer the bonus class clear up until that time as well so if you are still on the fence or are needing to wait to sign up until a little closer to the event. No worries. I will honor all attendees who sign up through my link HERE.
*Please note: You can sign up for True Scrap until October 20th, however, the deadline for the drawing is 9/30, and the deadline to attend the pre-event virtual crop is the Monday before.*
Q: I am actually going to be [out of town, etc.] during this event. Is it strictly a "live event", or can I do the videos/exercises the following weekend?
A: It is not strictly a "live" event. You will miss any online live chats but the videos/classes will be available for as long as you want and those are the heart & soul of the event. The live chats with the instructors are just a fun bonus. In Lain's wording: "eternal access to class recordings and chat transcripts". Yay!
September was all about sharing projects pertaining to happiness on Kerri's Blog and of course showing that happiness through the use of Kerri's kits and designs!
Laura Vegas shared a layout showcasing the music that makes her happy HERE
Robyn Werlich shared a layout showcasing how her family makes her happy HERE
And for my happy project, I'm sharing a travel-themed layout. Traveling makes me (and my family) very happy!
The base of my layout is kraft cardstock spritzed with my favorite, favorite Studio Calico Mister Huey Ink, Calico White. In fact, I am addicted to all of the Studio Calico Mists and just got my order of all the new colors!
For a great idea on creating swatches with your mists, check out Kristina Werner's Blog Post HERE. I have a little idea on something similar I want to create. Hoping to get to that maybe the week after next! I will share just as soon as I have it finished!
List of all the KBD die cuts/templates used on my layout:
Sign (This & That: Family)
Flowers (This & That: Summertime)
"Sep" & "2010" (TwentyTen)
"Day Two" (Escape)
"Explore Everywhere" (Going Places)
Photo Collage (Storyboard #1)
The sign post was inspired by the "Beach" sticker from October Afternoon. I thought it would be cute hanging from a sign. I loved using the sign post so much on THIS card that I thought I'd try it out on a layout!
***Update on The Spawn of True Scrap and my Bonus Class: Confessions of a "B" Side Scrapper***
If you registered [through my affiliate link] prior to yesterday when I announced the bonus class, you are still eligible for my bonus class! Just send me a copy of your paid receipt to [email protected] and I will add you to the list for the class.
Here's the info on the bonus class:
I am offering an additional private class for anyone who signs up through THIS affiliate linkcalled:
CONFESSIONS OF A "B" SIDED SCRAPPER
What exactly is a "B" side scrapper, you ask? Well, a "B" side scrapbooker is someone who almost always uses the "backside" of a 2-sided sheet of patterned paper. The "B" side is almost always a more understated, tone-on-tone or smaller design/pattern that the "A" side. This class will show you all the benefits of using the "B" side of your patterned papers plus give you lots of ideas on implementing them into not only your layouts but your card-making and other paper crafting crafts as well.
Exclusive content (layouts/projects that will never be shared anywhere else)
30-45 minute instructional video
pdf handout
BONUS Digital Die Cut Kit/Photo Template by Kerri Bradford made exclusively for this class
Email me a copy of your receipt after you sign up via THIS affiliate link to [email protected] and I will add your name to the list for my class. This is just my small way of saying "thank you". Please note you MUST use THIS LINK to sign up.

This week's From Start to Finish layout is die cut heavy. Almost every element on my page was created using a design from the Silhouette Online Store (see images/list below).
I wanted to create a page with 4 quadrants and instead of the standard 6x6 or 5x5, etc. I decided to use a 2-frame die cut, cut twice and overlapped to create the quadrant design.
Instead of placing all my elements behind the frames, I cut the large square scallope and die cut background and layered them on top of the frame opening.
I purposefully sized my largest photo somewhat smaller than the opening, leaving a white border around the photo for a matted effect.
I computer printed some journaling on a My Mind's Eye label for my subtitle and added stamping on the die cut "tabs" to reinforce the theme of my page.

I wanted to let my From Start to Finish followers know that this week's layout + video are my last. I have resigned my position as a Garden Girl at 2Peas. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a Garden Girl these last three years and I appreciate all the support the community has given me and my projects there. I will, however, be bringing you the final 3 Scrapbook Stamping Class Lessons for 2011 and have some amazing guest designers lined up for these final classes! Be sure to check the Garden at 2Peas on the first of the month for October's Scrapbook Stamping Class!

I am so thrilled to be sharing a terrifyingly sweet card with you for Simon Says Stamp's Stamptember Terrifying Tuesday feature.
My card features mixing stamps from a couple of manufacturers, layering background stamps, coloring in an image with Copic markers and adding texture to a die cut with a background stamp.
Card How To:
Trim 8.5x11" sheet of cardstock in half vertically and score in half.
Trim Apothecary Emporium patterned paper to 4x5.25". Stamp paper with Hero Arts/Studio Calio Grid Pattern background stamp using Hero Arts Soft Brown Shadow Ink. Stamp Bat Background Cling Stamp over Grid Pattern using Memories Black Ink.
Add texture to tree die cut with Hero Arts Woodgrain Design Block Stamp using Colorbox Frost White Ink.
Layer die cut fence and tree over stamped background. Trim excess.
Stamp C.C. Designs Witch on Neenah Solar White Cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. Color in with Copics (individual copic colors used linked below). Cut out colored in image and adhere to card with foam adhesive.
Stamp greeting on white cardstock using Hero Arts Soft Apricot Shadow Ink and trim into a 4.25" long strip.
Trim a vellum strip and score 1/8" from each side. Layer greeting strip on vellum and secure to card with Tiny Attacher.
Click HERE to view this card on the Simon Says Stamp Blog.
Be sure to check out all the great video tutorials during Simon Says Stamp's Stamptember Event!
If you love stamping, there is still time to register for Ella Publishing's Boot Camp. My first of three videos went live today. Here's a little sneaky peeky of all the stamping you will see in my projects/videos:
All of the projects are new and have never been showed anywhere else!
I'm sharing a card I created for Lawnscaping's Challenge #18, using newsprint or text stamping on your project.
I die cut several flowers from text patterned paper (Stampin' Up) and added color to each flower with Studio Calico Mister Huey Mist Inks. Once dry I layered the flowers and secured them with a Doodlebug button in the center.
I also created a text background by adding color with a Mister Huey Ink and then embossing a design over top with white embossing powder so that only part of the text background is visible.
I used three die cut flowers misted with Studio Calico's Sunshine, Lemonade and Pony Mister Huey Inks. Then I spritzed on some Tsukineko Copper Shimmer Spritz on top for some subtle shimmer and shine.
The leaves (Lawn Fawn's Blissful Botanicals) were stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with white powder. Then I "colored in" the leaves using a paintbrush and Studio Calico Pony, Sunshine, Lemonade, Clover and Schoolhouse Mister Huey Inks. Once dry, I cut around the leaves and assembled the autumn floral arrangement on the stamped and die cut mat stack (Papertrey Ink).
The stamped greeting (Lawn Fawn's Many Thanks) was stamped in white on the die cut mat stack.
To create the subtle text background, I trimmed the text paper to size, spritzed it with Pony Mister Huey Ink and Copper Tsukineko Ink. Once dry (I sped this up with a heat gun), I stamped a background stamp over the text paper using Versamark and heat set it with white embossing powder.

Kerri Bradford is celebrating her birthday week on her website this week and the design team is sharing projects to celebrate and today it was my turn to share a project with Kerri's ah-mazing designs!
When I saw Kerri's sneak peek a couple of weeks ago for the new This & That: Autumn Kit I had that "light bulb" or "ah-ha" moment where I knew immediately what I wanted to create with the kit. I had these photos from summer 2010 where my kids picked and sold sweet corn that their Grandpa grew for them. I knew I wanted to create a "scene" with the componenets of the kit (plus a few additional designs thrown in from other kits. see links in the supplies.), die cut the pieces from cardstock and customize the designs with background stamps.
List of all the KBD die cuts/templates used on my layout:
Barn & Silo (This & That: Autumn Kit)
Cornstalk (This & That: Autumn Kit)
Corn (This & That: Autumn Kit)
Windmill (This & That: Autumn Kit)
"Grown Here" (This & That: Autumn Kit)
Rooster Weathervane (The & That: Freedom Kit)
"Good Eats" (Escape Kit)
Photo Template (Storyboard #2 Kit)
I used background stamps from Hero Arts and Papertrey Ink to customize my die cut pieces. I also die cut solid black cardstock designs of each of the die cuts to give the scene a "shadow" that gives it more depthe & dimension.
The clouds are all stamps by Studio Calico and/or Hero Arts and punched with the coordinating Fiskars Cloud Punches.
I love being able to create my own custom titles by combining designs from more than one kit. "Grown Here" would have been a cute title on it's own but by adding "Good Eats" to it, it tells more of a story, makes a bigger impact and takes it up to that next level. When it's possible "hook" your die cuts together like I did with the corn and the loop in the letter "d" on "good". This helps the designs all work and flow together.
Close up of journaling. I split it up above and below the photo collage for a more interesting presentation.
