Awhile back, I shared a table runner and ruffled kitchen towels I created with Sweetwater's Lucy's Crab Shack by Moda fabric collection. (See the blog post HERE.)
I wanted to add to my kitchen ensemble with placemats and cloth napkins.
Not only are they pretty and make the table setting pretty but I love how using cloth napkins are environmentally friendly. No trash, just laundering. :)
Even though this collection is very fun and colorful, look how lovely it looks with a table setting:
All 8 placemats were created with one jelly roll. I chose to go with a monochromatic look for the individual placemats and used a contrasting pattern for the binding and backing of each.
Here's how they looked before sewing while I was working out the order for the patterns (please ignore the Vintage Modern fabrics in the top part of the photo. hee!):
I sewed the 7 strips together, ironed the seams flat, added some batting and the backing piece and then quilted each with straight lines. Nothing fancy. ;) Then I sewed on the binding.
After sewing binding on 8 placemats I definitely got better as I went. The two placemats on the left were the last 2 completed and haven't been laundered yet. You can see the placemats shrink down a bit after washing. Personally, I love the way they look once washed and dried (on low). Like a cozy quilted mini quilt.
The other 4 placemats:
I used the napkin tutorial in THIS book to sew my 10 napkins. Simple and easy. The hardest part of these babies was all the ironing! But it was worth it!
I working on finishing up several pillows right now for our family room to coordinate with a quilt I started way back in May. I'll be sharing several of those soon. ;)

I've had several questions about the "clips" on the flip flops on this stamped file folder I shared earlier this week. I completely forgot to add that info in my blog post! Sorry about that. I have added it to the original post HERE and I'll also share it below:
I knew I needed something to make the flip flops appear to be "clipped" to the string but I just didn't have a single thing in my stash small enough to work. I thought about just cutting super thin strips of black cardstock and folding them into clips but after remembering I had THIS punch, I used it and used the little punched out pieces as my "clips" by folding them in half and gluing them in place with Glossy Accents. Just another way to use the scraps from a punch!
