Summer is finally making an appearance here in the midwest! After a very very long winter and not much of a spring, the Magouirk Family is enjoying the warm sunny days, the end of another school year and spending lots of time outside! 

As much as I want to love summer and love having my kids home more it seems like our summer is even more busy than ever! Even though my crafting time tends to be a bit more limited during the summer months I always try to take some time doing what I love in between carting kids between activities. What do I love, you ask? Playing with stamps + ink + die(s), of course! Even better? New stamps + dies! ;)

To celebrate the new release, I created a layout showcasing 5 of the new dies from the release as well as stamps from two of the stamp sets. 

And I scrapped a layout featuring me.

I don't do that very often.

Project Life: yes.

Tradtitional scrapbooking: not so much.

It was a good sort of therapy. And I used lots of my favorite stuff (in addition to the stamps + dies!): wood design patt. paper, neutrals, the peach-y reds, buttons, woodgrain anything, tags, etc. Fun.

 

Did I mention that I used all four of the new butterfly dies on my layout? 

Love.

I die cut a bunch of butterflies from 6x6 patterned papers and vellum and layered them throughout my page design to give the feeling of flight on my page. If you're more of a card maker, you could create a similar downsized version really easily!

To embellish the butterflies, I added wooden buttons from my stash to the center of each and then added sticker phrases that supported my page/story. Foam adhesive under one or both sides of the die cut butterflies help give them a bit of dimension.

After printing my journaling on a scrap of patterned paper, I added the die cut word Be Sentiment and then stamped words from the Be Sentiments Stamp Set on either side using Hero Arts Soft Brown Ink.

More Graduation Cards (a scraplift of myself... or would that be a card lift?)

I shared THIS single layer card last week and when I made it, I liked it so much and it took so much time that I figured I should get the most for all those hours I spent agonizing over the design and use it again to finish up the last couple graduation cards I needed to get sent out.

I made two identical cards just like this and it was so, so easy. This time! ;)

The only changesI made to the graduation cards were the addtion of the stamped and embossed numbers for the graduation year (as opposed to the stamped/embossed stars on the birthday card HERE) and I changed up the colors and greeting, of course.

I also wanted to share this quick teacher thank you card I created for my youngest son's first grade teacher...

... unfortunately I was in a hurry last Thursday and didn't get a better photo than this instagram one but I wanted to share anyway since I really like how it turned out plus I used my favorite greeting stamp set again!

I created a rainbow sunburst on a small square card using an array of bright Hero Arts Shadow and Mid-Tone Inks, layered a stamped sunburst and stamped circle, then the die cut and stamped apple. I used the Sakura Glitter Pen on the rainbow sun rays and apple for subtle sparkle.

I stamped the greeting on vellum, scored the strip on each side using the Martha Stewart scoring board and attached it to the card with the Tiny Attacher.

KBS | Patriotic Dress Form Home Decor

Happy Memorial Day to all my friends here in the US!

I hope that if you are lucky enough to not have work today that not only are you are enjoying the day but remembering and celebrating those that lost their lives while serveing our country. I am so grateful and have much admiration for both those who serve in the military and for their families. 

A few months back I designed a feathered love-themed skirt for a wire dress form I've had for years but wanted to update it by decorating it with Kerri Bradford Studio die cuts and other random stuff from my scrap/craft stash. I designed the paper skirt in a way that it could be removed and stored away after Valentine's Day and this is why.... I wanted to be able to create a multitude of seasonal "attire" for my dress form! (I missed the Easter/Spring season....oops....maybe next year!)

First, the Kerri Bradford Studio shapes I used to create my decorated dress form:

• This & That Freedom (patriotic banner)
• Stars & Stripes (star with wavy lines hanging, star)
• This & That Autumn (sunflower)
• Design Team Picks (rolled flower)
• Flower: cut from text paper (KBS Class coming soon to KBS)

To celebrate the summer season: Independence Day, Memorial Day, etc. I used the adorable layered patriotic banner in the This & That Freedom kit, cut from red, white and blue patterned papers, then layered and glued them together to create a "ruffled" skirt. 

FYI: THIS glue is what I use for adhering the die cut elements together for my 3D paper crafted projects.(I'm sure there's other liquid adhesives that would work but this is what I had on hand.) I've found I like it much better then hot glue for this step. The hot glue works best for attaching all the dimentsional embellishments like florals, feathers, etc.

I used a wide paper waistband cut from some flocked cardstock and added a fabric ruffle trim and embellishment at one side of the waist for fun dramatic flair. 

The layered vellum and glitter cardstock star design at the center of the embellishment is another Kerri Bradford shape that perfectly compliments the patriotic theme. 

I particularly love these types of projects because they give me the opportunity to use those embellishments that I love but might not necessarily want to put in my scrapbooks (i.e. the glittery Prima star, beaded and sprial pick, the Bella Blvd. feathers.....just wait until Halloween baby...that's all I'm sayin'!). I also added in some trinket pins from my stash (and oh my gosh I have a zillion and one of those!). I love finding a home for them in my home decor projects.

Other things I tucked into the waist embellishment:

• Maggic Holmes Resin Clip
• fabric florals
• ribbon 
• twine

I finished my dress form with a "necklace" of die cut paper flowers adorned with brads or buttons. 

I actually had the skirt part of this project finished for quite some time but was struggling to figure out what to do at the neckline... these dimensional flowers made for the most exquisite necklace and were totally inspired by all the incredible bold fashion necklaces that we're seeing in our favorite stores and fashion magazines!

I wrapped some cream floral ribbon trim around the neck and draped it down the back for added texture and to "fill in" that neck space just a bit more without overpowering the colorful flower necklace.

I ended up tucking a bit of tan tulle under some of the flowers to help "soften" the design a bit and to just give it a bit more of that romantic flair....

Happy (belated) Birthday To You (a single layer card)

I am always on the lookout for fun and new ways to create one-dimensional cards using stamps + inks. While these cards often times appear simple and easy that isn't always the case.

Take this card, for example:

This card took hours to make.

Hours.

Because I literally threw away like seven cards before this.

Now, I was having a super off day. And I had attempted two completely different styles of cards before deciding to go a different direction and stamp a birthday one but still... so frustrating!

I know we've all been there. We have time to create but when we actually get right to it the stuff that comes out just isn't what was imagined.

I'm glad I persevered, though, because this card may be one of my all time favorites and it is nothing but paper + ink. 

How awesome is that?!!!!?

To create my card:

1. Stamp the greeting in black ink using (my newest, favoritest greeting stamp set) Avery Elle Handwritten Notes. I adore this stamp set. It's a must have and I will be using it a lot!
2. Stamp balloons with Hero Arts Neon Inks using Mama Elephant Good Times Stamp Set. I used both the first stamping and then without re-inking I stamped the design again for a lighter colored neon balloon. For some of the balloons I only used the second stamped impression, using a scrap piece of paper for the first stamping. Be sure to stamp some of the balloons off the sides to give a more "balanced" design.
3. Stamp the coordinating balloon bows on 3 of the balloons using the full intensity neon ink. I didn't like the look of all the balloons having the bows...too busy. I threw that card attempt away. 
4. Mask off the greeting using masking tape or a trimmed sticky note (I used a sticky note since it was handy!). You wouldn't have to mask off the greeting but I found that I didn't like the look of the balloon "strings" going through my greeting. Yep, I trashed that design too. Blerg.
5. Stamp the straight line stamp from the Avery Elle Merry & Bright Stamp Set using Versamark Champagne Ink. This ink is not dark and I chose it on purpose. I played around with several different colors of ink before finally settling on Versamark and here's why: I felt that every ink I used was overpowering the balloons instead of "grounding" them like I wanted. The champagne color of this Versamark gives a bit of color along with subtle sparkle and while it is pretty light, it doesn't disappear into the background quite like regular Versamark might.
6. To give the balloon strings added definition without adding color, I traced over the stamped lines with the Sakura Clear Glitter Pen. I also dotted the polka dot balloons with the Glitter Pen. I likes me some sparkle!

7. Finally, I thought that some of the balloons needed just a bit something extra so I stamped the small star from the Mama Elephant On Target Stamp Set using Versamark ink and then I heat embossed the design using white opaque embossing powder.

I think that little pink balloon under the greeting really balances it all out with that pop of color. It helps draw your eye down the card as well. 

I love stamping!

I used the patterned papers, cardstock and stamped greeting from the June 2013 Card Kit and paired them with additional SSS exclusive dies and stamps for this sweet thank you card.

To create the heart shaped window on my card I first trimmed down my patterned papers to 4"x5.25" (I used two different patterned papers). I took the more solid patterned paper and temporarily adhered it to the front of my card base using a sticky note so that it wouldn't shift when I die cut the SSS Thank You Heart Die (the "thank you" die) from the layered papers. I set the "thank you" heart aside and then die cut the solid heart from the gray patterned paper. I cut a sheet of plastic slightly larger then the heart and sandwiched it between the front of the card base and the first die cut layer. Then I adhered the solid die cut paper and the gray one right on top. I replaced the "thank you" die cut heart inside and glued it in place. I added some glitter pen to the greeting for sparkle. 

I die cut the SSS Folded Banner Die from vellum and stamped the greeting from the Kelly Purkey Dude Stamp Set using Hero Arts Unicorn White Ink. I glued the banner over the die cut heart window.

I finished the card with die cut and/or stamped hearts using the SSS Lots of Hearts Stamp Set and coordinating dies, SSS Large Holiday Shapes and SSS Mini Hearts Die.

I added Glossy Accents to some of the hearts for dimension.

I die cut an additional solid heart from one of the red patterned papers in the kit and adhered it to the inside of the card so that the color would peek through the window to the front of the card!

Simon Says Stamp June 2013 Card Kit | You Are My Hero Card (Video & GIVEAWAY)

I created the "shirt" using a digi design from the Silhoutte Online Store and added the stamped and cut out tie from the Kelly Purkey Dude Stamp Set included in the kit. I just love how it turned out!

The greetings are all stamped in Versamark and embossed with Zing! embossing powders. I included the trio of tiny hearts and script greeting from the SSS Just a Love Note Stamp Set.

I added Glossy Accents to the Mini Hearts Die Cuts for subtle dimension.

I finished this simple card with the Father's Day greeting stamped in Hero Arts Navy Mid-Tone Ink using Kelly Purkey's Dude Stamp Set.

Simon Says Stamp June 2013 Card Kit | Happy Father's Day Card

The Simon Says Stamp June 2013 Card Kit is now available! Whoohoo!

I'm always on the lookout for great masculine product for creating cards and scrapbook pages for the men in my life and the June Kit is the perfect kit for creating cards for all those guys you know and love!

For my first card share using the SSS June Kit, I created a Father's Day card with the cardstock, patterned papers and stamps included in the kit. To round out my card, I used lots of other exclusive SSS stamps and dies.... isn't Simon (the dog) the cutest?!!!!

To create my card, I first used the SSS Falling Stars Die on my card base and backed the front of my card with some red patterned paper from the kit for that nice pop of color on the cream background. I stamped the Impression Obsession Spatter Stamp over the front using the Hero Arts Soft Sand Ink for some distressing and texture. A couple of patterned paper strips and a stamped border give the background a bit more color.

To create my greeting, I die cut the exclusive SSS Life Bubble Horizontal 2 Die using cardstock and patterned paper in the kit. I stamped several greetings (one at a time) from the Kelly Purkey Dude Stamp Set using Versamark Ink, embossing each with a different color of Zing! embossing powder.

The SSS Boston Terrier Love Stamps & Die Set was the perfect addition to this Father's Day card, giving it that touch of whimsy and fun I was going for!

I die cut the Boston Terrier from Neenah White Cardstock and then stamped him with the coordinating stamp design using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink before coloring  him with these Copic Marker colors:

I added glasses from the stamp set and also a colored bow cut out and embellished with a glitter pen to personalize the image.  Then I adhered him with foam adhesive.

Finally, I die cut several stars from patterned papers in the kit using the SSS Holiday Shapes Die and SSS Large Holiday Shapes Dies and adhered them to the card before giving them some dimension with Glossy Accents.

Project Life 2012 | Week Twenty

Hello there!

It's probably no surprise that I'm still a bit addicted to polaroid everything.

I'm also on a mission to get my 2012 Project Life Album finished and my 2013 PL Album up to date.

Today I have a fun spread for my 2012 album that includes a couple of inserts in addition to the 2-page spread plus lots and lots of fun polaroid accents created from the Simple Stories Sn@p! Collection. So very, very fun!

Project Life 2012 | Week Twenty:

Left Side:

I was inspired by all the fun polaroid-style printed 4x6 cards and 12x12 patterned paper in the collection and even cut several frames from the 12x12 polaroid paper to layer on top of printed designs to give the illusion of stacks of polaroid frames. ;)

Stamped accents, sticker "washi" tape and random sequins add to the fun factor on this spread and keep the dimnesional embellishments to a minimum, which I love.

I added lots of stamping to the title card. Even the center of the camera polaroid is a round Sn@p sticker with a round stamped text image stamped inside. Don't be afraid to customize those pre-printed accents and embellishments to make your PL and scrapbook pages YOU.

This Simple Stories Sn@p Collection is incredible to work with and can mix and match with so many other products in the ol' scrap stash!

I used the Becky Higgins 5x7 Vertical Page Protector to include a birth announcement and the BH Design H Page Protector for the graduation announcements we received this year.

I included some October Afternoon accents with the Sn@p ones... works great together!

I also printed journlaing on one of the Sn@p stickers and used the Tiny Attacher to secure the sticker to the 3x4 Sn@p card.

May Studio AE Blog Hop from Technique Tuesday

Welcome to the May 2013 Studio AE Blog Hop!

This month we're featuring, Heartfelt by Ali Edwards, the Studio AE stamp set for May.

Today I have a Project Life share featuring all stamped journaling/embellishment cards showcasing a masking technique and/or distressing.

Project Life 2013 | Week Three:

I wanted to focus on the stamping for my week 3 spread so I kept the supplies to a minimum of stamps + white paper + ink. Then I threw in a few wood veneer shapes, washi tape  and stickers for embellishment and interest.

The left side of the spread showcases the "Week 3" Title Card plus photos and stamped journaling cards. I left the one pocket from Week Two open on this spread to allow it to show through.

Because I knew I wanted to feature the journaling card stamp from this month's Studio AE stamp set I purposely chose a sheet protector with pockets that would work with the horizontal landscape... however, I didn't really have enough content to warrant the entire sheet protector so I cut it down (see video). Don't be afraid to alter your sheet protectors to work for you!
