Today I have a new layout/project life page (can work either way depeneding on how you like to record your memeories) up on Kerri Bradford's Blog. This is the title page for my Project Life 2013 album however I have used a similar page design several times in the past. It's one of my very favorite designs. If you approach it as 4 individuall 6x6 "pages" it allows for some amazing creativity and if you use similar color(s) once you put the whole thing together the impact is incredible.
Imagine taking the 4 squares here, mounting them on a 12x12 sheet/background, replace the "hello 2013" in the word bubble with some journaling and this would be a lovely scrapbook page.
*FYI* At the end of this post I am sharing links to more pages I've created using this style to show you how it works for traditional scrapbooking.
Even though it's halfway through April I'm just now getting around to creating the title page for my 2013 Project Life Album. I'm glad I waited to make the title page as I had started it a couple of times and both times it just wasn't coming together in a way that made me happy. I switched out the more traditional Project Life sheet protector design for this one (Becky Higgins Design E) featuring 4 - 6x6 pockets and the design just fell together really quickly! I love how this quadrant style sheet protector allows for 4 "mini" style scrapbook layouts! I approached each pocket as it's own "page". By using similar colors and theme(s) on all 4 "pages" it creates a cohesive and well coordinated 12x12 page but each square can stand alone as well.
This square distinguishes this as my "2013" album. I used 4 different KBS cut files:
- TwentyThirteen ("2013")
- Summer Lovin' ("hello")
- Design Team Picks (thought bubble)
- XOXO (hearts)
I did add "shadows" to the die cuts because I really think it makes them stand out more and the addition of some stamping (Studio Calico: heart arrow & sub-title: Ali Edwards) really complete the design.
I added some Glossy Accents to the die cut red heart for subtle dimension and that sheen that really makes the hearts on this page appear more like dimensional "stickers". I love that.
I knew that I wanted to use this family die cut quote in one square. The trick was making sure I cut it small enough to fit in the 6x6 square and that I got a clean cut since it was a bit smaller than I might do otherwise. This is what is so awesome about the Cameo.... it cuts detailed images like butter! I would definitely recommend using a new blade and/or a new cutting mat when cutting something this detailed to get the cleanest cut possible. If your blade is catching and pulling instead of cutting, chances are you need to replace one or both Cameo accessories.
To make the quote "pop", I added "shadows" for this quote with dark gray cardstock and the addition of contrasting paper on some of the key words makes it so fun! Again, I added some Glossy Accents to a couple of the words to bring emphasis to them. And as always, stamping completes the look ("Taking It All In": Ali Edwards Studio AE and "New Year....Twenty Thirteen": Studio Calico).
I used this KBS kit to cut the quote:
- This Everything (quote)
You might notice that I didn't use a true black ink anywhere on my page. That was on purpose. When stamping on your pages (and cards!) be mindful of how your ink choices effect the rest of your design. To keep with the soft and neutral colors I chose inks that were also "softer" and didn't overwhelm the rest of the design. I used the Hero Arts Charcoal, Wet Cement and Pale Tomato inks.
Photos are a huge part of Project Life and scrapbooking! I grabbed a handful of recent okay not so recent December 2012- February 2013 favorites and edited them in photo editing software to make them all black/white. I didn't want them to compete with the rest of the design. This page is more about overall feel than telling an individual story.
I used this KBS photo template:
- Picture That [Squared] (resized to 5.75" to fit after adding photos)
KBS photo templates are some of my very favorite things. Click HERE to check out all the amazing designs Kerri has available... and they are ON SALE right now! Whoohoo!!!!
I also added a die cut tag stamped with a Studio Calico Stamp and added a couple of die cut hearts (I added Glossy Accents to these too).
KBS designs used here:
- This & That: Love (tag)
- XOXO (hearts)
Finally, one of my initial ideas for my Project Life Title Page ideas that I didn't discard is the addition of the Studio Calico Wood People. I think they make such a fun addition. :) The banner die is Simon Says Stamp and the stamp on the banner is from Kelly Purkey. I popped it up with foam adhesive.
The heart background looks impressive and would be lovely as is but I die cut several hearts from the other patterned papers used throughout the design and layered them behind some of the open heart designs and it really makes the background shine! So easy and so worth the added effort!
KBS designs/kits used:

OTHER LAYOUTS USING A SIMILAR PAGE DESIGN:
- Absolutley Brilliant Layout
- Feb 14 Layout: This one uses tags instead of the 4 - 6x6 squares.
- Easter Eggs Layout: This one doesn't use quadrants but multiple file folder die cuts instead but the same basic idea applies - each file folder is an individual element combined with the whole for a co-hesive design.
- The Story of Home Layout: This one uses the polaroid frames printed on the 12x12 paper as individual " elements.
- 3 Layouts from my True Scrap 4 Class: The Art of Layering has three layouts that feature similar page designs.
- Lucky Me Layout
- Thank You For Being In My Life Layout: This is maybe the first layouts I ever did with the 4 quadrant-style page design done way back in 2009. It continues to be a favorite today.
