Hello Weekend, I'm so happy you're here!
Welcome to the Mama Elephant June Design Team blog hop! Our June release is now live and available for purchase in the store:www.mamaelephant.com.
I'm so very, very excited to be guest designing for Mama Elephant this month! I am a huge fan of Kryssi and the entire collection of Mama Elephant Stamps! Today I have a simple but elegant card set (and video) to share with you! In fact, this just might be the least amount of supplies I've used to create a card (or card set in this case!) in some time. And I love the results!
I am a big fan of single layer cards.
They are easy to mail since they aren't bulky and with inking techniques and creativity single layer doesn't have to mean plain and boring. Nope, single layer just means you can get your inky on and I love me some inks! (That's a whole other issue that we can "discuss" later..... ha!)
I chose to use Stampin' Up Stampin' Write markers for my cards but you could use other markers to achieve similar results. Tim Holtz's Distress Markers would be a great choice, too, and with the Distress Ink you could even spritz them with water before stamping the colored stamp onto your paper for more of a watercolor feel.
I also went outside my comfort zone with single layer cards and chose colorful backgrounds (cardstock) instead of the white or off-white or kraft that I'm prone to reaching for and..... I am so, so happy I did! I think it gives these cards a richer, more elegant feel that they just wouldn't have gotten with a white background and now I am looking at my colorful cardstock with new eyes and can't wait to try this with other stamp sets and cardstock colors!
I colored in the largest floral stamp from the Water Blooms Stamp Set using 5 markers (2 blues, 2 greens and a purple) and stamped it off the bottom right corner of my card. Stamping off the edge of the card makes for a much more pleasing design. Then I took a greeting from the stamp set and stamped it using Memories Black Ink and then repeated the floral design stamp again, rotating it a bit before stamping. Then I took the single stamps in the set and layed them out on the card to "fill in" some open areas. Working in one small area at a time I "picked up" multiple clear stamps with a block and colored them in just like the larger stamp and then stamped them all at once. Not only does this allow to stamp several colorful images at once but I don't forget how I had them arranged! ;)
Once all the florals were stamped I grabbed a Sakura Clear Glitter Pen and added glitter dots to some of the stamped dots on my cards. Then I took a Sakura White Opaque Pen and added detail to the florals.
I finished my cards with some Doodlebug gems. Easy peasy, right?!!!!
If you'd like to watch how I created the cards keep scrolling down below the puple card images for a little video....

Wow - you've totally inspired me, I admit I have been a bit "afraid" of making one-layer cards, but these are just stunning. I'm going to have to play around a bit today and see what I can come up with! Thanks for the inspiration. :) This set is beautiful!
