Hello July....
July?!
Already? Yikes. This summer is literally flying by.
If you've joined Maile Belles and I at Studio Calico for Inked, then you may have seen a layout today in the classroom using one of Julie Nutting's Doll Stamps. I am addicted to them. However, at the moment I'm not much of a mixed media type of gal but I don't let that stop me from using these amazing stamps! No siree... they are a great substantial size, perfect for scrapbooking and as I'm going to share today, even card making!
The stamps measure an average of 7.25" tall so they're going to be a nice larger size. Perfect for creating stamped paper pieced creations!
To use this adorable girl on my card, I just used a portion of the stamp on my card. Easy peasy. I combined the stamped and paper pieced image with some fun Studio Calico stamps for a nautical themed thank you card.
I started my card by stamping the image on a scrap of Studio Calico text paper using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. (Any ink would work, however since I knew I wanted to color the skin and hair with Copics, I used an ink that wouldn't bleed and is recommended for Copic coloring.
I colored her hair.
Then I stamped the image on a 6x6 piece of yellow patterned paper... and cut out portions of the dress to begin the paper piecing process.
I cut out some anchor 6x6 paper, and a black/white "tweed" type of patterned paper and also some white (for the ruffle).
Doesn't this technique look amazing once everything is glued in place? Love.
I like to dress up the dolls with simple embellishments. I used a rhinestone trim to decorate the headband and waistband of the skirt.
I used a little Glitter Pen action on the "jacket".
Brushed on a little Wink of Stella Glitter Pen on the ruffle of the skirt.
Nautical themed stamping on the background tie the image in to the rest of my card.
Stamped and embossed anchors, a scalloped boarder and additional patterned paper strips complete the card.
Doll stamps make great cards, huh? They make great layouts, too! Promise I will be sharing a layout here on the blog showcasing one of these great stamps....soon!
