I've shared ideas using the Julie Nutting Doll Stamps that I'm crazy about over the last couple of weeks and today I want to share an idea on how to use up some of those 6x6 paper scraps from the Simon Says Stamp monthly card kits! (*Video and additional dolls using past SSS Card Kit paper scraps coming soon!)
I used the Prima Julie Nutting Megan Doll Stamp with some of the paper scraps from the SSS April 2014 Card Kit.
I like to stamp these doll stamps on text background paper. I don't add faces to my dolls and I find the text backgrounds adds interest to the faces and any other exposed "skin". I colored this doll's skin and hair with Copic Markers. I also added shading, detail and shadows to the clothing and other fussy cut elements with Copics. I think it gives the dolls a more overall "finished" look.
I thought the boots on this doll would make cute rain boots so I added a layer of Glossy Accents on top of the fussy cut patterned paper boots to make them shiny! The umbrella from the SSS Seasonal Simon Stamp Set made the perfect additon to her cute ensemble, don't you think? I made my own umbrella handle using a cut file from the Silhouette Online Store and cutting it from scraps of 6x6 paper leftover from the SSS April 2014 Card Kit.
Because this is a project created with supplies available at Simon Says Stamp and because this adorable stamp of Simon the dog from the SSS Seasonal Simon Stamp Set is the perfect size to compliment the doll stamps, I stamped, colored and outfitted him with rain boots to compliment his companion!
To give her skirt "movement" and not the flat appearance of a single a single fussy cut element, I stamped the skirt twice. Then I cut every other "section" out and glued it in place over the first skirt. This helps give the flowing skirt the look of actual "folds".
My plan is to create a doll with each month's kit and to place them on an Inspiration Board in my studio throughout the year. Then at the end of the year to create some sort of layout or art journal page(s) with all of the dolls! I think this will be a fun way to "look back" through the year's card kits!
I was inspired to create an Inspiration Board after seeing the absolutely incredible one my dear friend Kathy Racoosin is creating for her studio. Please check out her BLOG to see all the amazing butterfly creations she is creating for her Inspiration Board. It's inspiring!
