LAWN FAWN So Jelly + Ocean Wave Borders | "I'm So Jelly" Card (video)

It's the Lawn Fawn May Inspiration and Release Week and today the Design Team is showcasing the new So Jelly Stamp Set, coordinating So Jelly Dies, and Ocean Wave Borders Dies. I combined the new products with some Small Stitched Square Stackables Dies to create a shaker card.

I stamped the jellyfishes from the So Jelly Stamp Set on watercolor cardstock and colored in the images with Zig Clear Color Real Brush Markers, then die cut the designs with the coordinating So Jelly Dies.

I die cut the frame for the shaker from smooth white cardstock using the two largest sized squares from the Small Stitched Square Stackables. I die cut a shaker backer from white cardstock and the transparency using the largest square die. I die cut some SSS Sea Glass Cardstock, SSS Surf Blue Cardstock and vellum using the other square die.

From the SSS Surf Blue Cardstock square and vellum square, I used the new Ocean Wave Borders Dies to create the water borders for the underwater scene.

I adhered the waves to the light blue square and tucked the jellyfish under and over the waves, securing with adhesive.

I stamped the greeting from the So Jelly Stamp Set on the transparency using White StazOn Ink.

I adhered the frame to the transparency and applied two layers of foam adhesive around the frame. I filled the shaker with Pretty Pink Posh Aquamarine and Sparkling Clear sequins and adhered the finished shaker to a white card base.

Bella Blvd Fabric Project(s) | Military Max Quilt + Drawstring Backpack Tutorial

I was so excited to see the fabulous Military Max Fabric Collection by Bella Blvd for Riley Blake Designs. Sometimes it can be tricky to find great fabrics for those older boys in our lives and this collection works for every age guy! My 9 year old was so taken with the army men and skull and crossbones patterns in this collection that I sewed him up a quilt and drawstring backpack.

 

I used the Cluck Cluck Sew Tango Pattern for my quilt (throw size: 56" x 70") and it was super simple to put together.  I cut all my fabric one afternoon, sewed up all the blocks another day and then put the whole thing together in another! I love the random block placement as well as the assortment of different block styles.

I used 16 - 1/4" yard prints and solids from the Military Max Collection, mixing in some black/white prints from older Riley Blake Bella Blvd Collections Puppy Park and Too Cute To Spook for a bit more variety (these are both out of print but you could mix in any other black/white prints you have on hand). The back of the quilt is the Military Plaid Gray and I bound the quilt with the Military Camo Black.

 

A couple of years ago I shared THESE drawstring backpacks I made for my two youngest. My youngest son felt like his “babyish” drawstring bag needed an update so I sewed up this quick bag with the awesome black/gray Military Max cottons and he couldn’t be happier. Win!

What You Need To Make This Drawstring Backpack:

• 14.5” x 12.5” cotton (bottom front and back, outer bag)
• 14.5” x 4.5” cotton (top front and back, outer bag)
• 14.5” x 16.5” cotton (lining of bag, x2)
• 14” x 2” cotton (tunnels for drawstrings, x2)
• approx. 6” twill tape
• 14.5” x 16.5” fusible interfacing x 2 (optional, but it helps make the bag sturdier)
• cording, ribbon, etc. to use for drawstrings

1/4” seam allowance.

 

Place the 14.5” x 4.5” piece of fabric (Military Camo Black) on top of the 14.5” x 12.5” piece of fabric (Military Skulls Black), right sides together and sew together to make the front of the bag. Repeat for the back of the bag. Iron the seam down.

 

*Iron fusible interfacing to the back of each of the front panels of the bag to create a sturdier bag.

Top stitch 1/4” from where the two fabrics meet on the front and back panels for a nice finished look.

On the 14” x 2” tunnel strips, iron in approximately 1/4” on each short side and stitch in place. Fold each strip in half lengthwise and iron. Do this for each tunnel.

 

Line the raw edges of the tunnel up with the raw edge of the front of the bag. Pin and machine baste in place. Repeat for the back of the bag. We will secure the tunnels to the bag a bit later.

 

On the bottom corners of the bag, trim a 1.5” square from each corner. Fold twill tape in half and pin about 3/4” to 1” above trimmed corners. Pin the loops to the bag.

 

Pin the front panel to the back panel of the bag, right sides together and sew each side and the bottom of the bag. Leave the corners unstitched.

 

Pinch the corners of the bottom of the bag together, lining up the seams and pin together. Stitch to secure. Do this for both bottom corners of the bag.

 

For the lining, put the two pieces of lining fabric right sides together and trim trim a 1.5” square from each bottom corner. Sew each side and the bottom of the bag, leaving a bit of an opening in the bottom for turning the back right side out. Pinch the corners of the bottom of the bag together, lining up the seams and pin together. Stitch to secure. Do this for both bottom corners of the bag.

 

Place the lining inside the outer bag, right sides together, and pin all the way around, making sure the seams line up, and stitch.

 

Put your hand inside the bag and pull bag right side out through the opening in the lining. 

Stitch the opening in the lining shut and stuff lining down inside the bag.

 

Take cording or ribbon and place a safety pin through one end. Thread one piece of cording through the right tunnel of the bag, ending on the right side through the other side of the bag. Thread the other piece through the left tunnel of the bag, ending on the left side of the bag.

 

Put one piece of the string through the loop on the side of the bag and knot. Repeat on the other side.

LAWN FAWN | Milk Carton Die "Dog House Gift Boxes" (video)

I absolutely adore the Lawn Fawn 3-dimensional dies, like the Goodie Bag and Candy Box. I've created several projects using these dies in the past. They make the perfect little gift boxes for all kinds of small treats and gifts!

Lawn Fawn has done it again by adding the Milk Carton to it's 3D die collection! I created little dog house Milk Carton gift boxes by combining other Lawn Fawn die cuts with the Milk Carton and adding a sweet little stamped dog from the Critters From the Burbs Stamp Set!

 

For each milk carton treat box, I die cut the Milk Carton twice from SSS Schoolhouse Red Cardstock. It takes two die cuts to create one box.

For the dog house door opening I used one of the new Stitched Oval Dies cut from SSS Black Cardstock. I die cut the 11" edge of a piece of SSS Green Leaf Cardstock using the Grassy Border Die and die cutting the border twice for one long continuous border.

While the dog house panels are still flat I stamped "i ruff you" greeting from the Critters At The Dog Park Stamp Set on the front of the dog houses using Versamark Ink and heat embossing with white embossing powder.

For the "shingles" on the dog house I die cut SSS Black Cardstock using the largest of the Scalloped Border Dies. I adhered the scallops one on top of the other and trimmed off any excess.

I stamped the dog and tennis ball from the Critters From the Burbs Stamp Set on watercolor paper using Ranger Archival Jet Black Ink and colored in the images with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers, then die cut the images with the coordinating Critters In The Burbs Dies. I glued the die cuts in place and assembled the milk carton "dog house".

I die cut the banner from white cardstock using the banner in the Large Journaling Card Set and scored it in half to make a folding tag. I die cut the smaller hole reinforcement from SSS Schoolhouse Red Cardstock using the Tag You're It Die Collection and glued it to the tag. I stamped "to" and "from" from the Birthday Tags Stamp Set using the new Lawn Fawn Lobster Ink.

I punched holes in the top of the milk carton, threaded some Cloudy Lawn Trimmings Twine through, secured the tag and tied it in a bow.

Welcome to the Lawn Fawn May Inspiration & Release Week! 

Today I'm excited to share a card created with the brand new Party Animal Stamp Set and coordinating Party Animal dies. These cute critters and images are the perfect way to share birthday greetings. I grouped the scene in the center of a die cut framed oval for maximum impact.

I stamped the critters and birthday images from the Party Animals Stamp Set on Tim Holtz Watercolor Paper using Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black. I colored the images with the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and die cut the images with the coordinating Party Animals Die Cuts. (The individual marker colors are linked below in supplies).

I die cut the SSS Island Blue Cardstock using a Stitched Rectangle Die and one of the new Stitched Oval Dies. I die cut some SSS Audrey Blue Cardstock using that same oval die. I adhered the darker blue die cut panel to a white card base with foam adhesive, then adhered the lighter blue oval directly to the card base.

I adhered the critters birthday scene to the center of the oval using foam adhesive underneath the animals.

I stamped a banner from the Bannerific Stamp Set on Tim Holtz Watercolor Paper using Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black. I colored the banner with the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. Once the ink dried I stamped the greeting from the Party Animal Stamp Set and die cut the image with the coordinating Bannerific Die.

Mama Elephant Designer Series | PLAYFUL PUPS "Wishing You..." Card (video)

I adore the adorable puppies in the Mama Elephant Playful Pups Stamp Set and coordinating Playful Pups Creative Cuts dies. I added birthday hats from the Ella & Friends Stamp Set from Mama Elephant for a sweet birthday card. The stitched rectangle, scallop rectangle, and banner from the Basic Die Creative Cuts die collection made the perfect background and place to stamp the greeting on the front of the card. The Pop Up Trio Creative Cuts dies are so easy to use and make the inside of the card interactive!

I die cut a 6x6 sheet of Doodlebug LoveBug patterned paper using the stitched rectangle die from the Basic Die Creative Cuts die collection. I layered a die cut scallop rectangle over the top to mute the intensity of the patterned paper.

I stamped four of the pups and the food dish from the Playful Pups Stamp Set and four birthday hats from the Ella & Friends Stamp Set on smooth white cardstock and colored them in with Copic Markers. I die cut all the images with the coordinating Playful Pups Creative Cuts dies and Ella & Friends Creative Cuts dies.

I adhered three of the pups and hats to the front of the card as shown. I added Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Pen to the hats, the black Sakura Gel Pen to the eyes on the pups and Glossy Accents on the noses.

I die cut a banner from the 6x6 sheet of solid Doodlebug LoveBug patterned paper using the die from the Basic Die Creative Cuts die collection. I stamped a greeting from the Playful Pups Stamp Set on the banner using Versamark Ink and heat embossed the greeting with white embossing powder.

I trimmed a sheet of SSS Lipstick Red Cardstock 1/4" smaller than the inside of the A2 sized card. I used two of the Pop Up Trio Creative Cuts dies to the score line of the red cardstock to create the interactive pop ups. I adhered the red cardstock to the inside of the white card.

I stamped a another greeting from the Playful Pups Stamp Set using Versamark Ink and heat embossed the greeting with white embossing powder. I added stamped paw prints next to the greeting using SSS Lipstick Red Ink.

I glued the last pup, birthday hat, and dog dish to the pop ups to complete the card.

My Favorite Copic Marker Colors (videos + GIVEAWAY)

Happy weekend crafty friends!

I've received a lot of questions about my favorite Copic Marker colors so today I have a card featuring images colored with my favorite and most used Copic Markers. This is by no means all the colors I use but I would say these are the colors I use more than any others. I am not an expert at all. A lot of coloring is trial and error and practice, practice, practice!

To showcase my favorite Copic markers I used one of my favorite Simon Says Stamp stamp sets, Abby's Spring Showers. While I touched almost all my favorite colors/color families there were a few colors in the gray families that I couldn't fit into this card! All of my favorite markers (plus the few I didn't fit into this designs) are listed below the project photos.

 

I colored in the Abby's Spring Showers stamps with my favorite Copic Marker colors (watch video below), then die cut the images with the coordinating Spring Showers Die Cuts.

For the background I stamped SSS Sea Glass Cardstock with the SSS Falling Rain Background Stamp using Versamark Ink and embossing with clear embossing powder. I stamped SSS Green Leaf Cardstock with the SSS Diagonal Background Stamp using SSS Fern Ink and die cut a landscape using a SSS Stitched Slopes and Borders die. I die cut clouds from smooth white cardstock and vellum using the SSS Flat Bottom Clouds die and heat embossed a greeting on the vellum cloud from the SSS Hand Lettered Encouragement Stamp Set, embossing with white embossing powder.

I adhered all the stamped, colored and die cut images to the background panel and rounded the corners on the panel and the card base with a 1/2" corner chomper.

CAUCASIAN SKIN TONES

These are the colors I generally use for caucasian skin. I'm creating another tutorial/chart featuring more skin tones/hair colors. I'll have that up in the next week or so!

Mama Elephant Stamp Highlight | Bella Letters (video)

The new Mama Elephant Bella Letters Stamp Set is perfect for creating custom greetings to cards or titles/journaling to scrapbook pages. I used the letters to create the "I Love You" title along the bottom edge of the card. Makes the perfect addition to the stamped greeting from the Purrfect Pair Stamp Set and the cute puppy and kitty stamped images.

I die cut the large tag from the SSS Sea Glass Cardstock and SSS Green Apple Cardstock using the Tags A Lot Creative Cuts dies. I die cut grassy borders from the green tags using the Grassy Trio Creative Cuts dies and adhered them along the bottom of the blue tag.

I stamped the spaghetti string and greeting from the Purrfect Pair Stamp Set on the blue tag using MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink.

I stamped the puppy from the Playful Pups Stamp Set and the kitty, bow and bowl of spaghetti from the Purrfect Pair Stamp Set using the MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink and colored in the images with Copic Markers. I die cut the images using the coordinating Purrfect Pair Creative Cuts dies and Playful Pups Creative Cuts dies. I adhered the images to the tag and added detail to the eyes with a black gel marker.

I stamped "(I Love You)" from the Mama Elephant Bella Letters Stamp Set using MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink along the bottom of the card and finished with stamped pawprints from the Purrfect Pair Stamp Set with SSS Green Apple Ink.

I die cut the hole reinforcement from SSS Audrey Blue Cardstock using the Tags A Lot Creative Cuts dies and adhered it to the top of the tag. I threaded some twine from the Pretty Pink Posh Garden Embellishment Kit through the top of the tag and tied it in a bow.

I secured the tag to a white card base using foam adhesive.

Mama Elephant Stamp Highlight | Small Talk (video)

I'm not a fan of bugs (really, who is?!!!) but these adorable buggies from the Mama Elephant Small Talk Stamp Set are the cutest little guys ever. I paired the thought bubbles and bugs from the Mama Elephant Small Talk Stamp Set with the Block Party Letters Stamp Set for my card share today.

To create my card, I drew a pencil line along a white piece of cardstock and stamped letters from the Block Party Letters Stamp Set and the bugs from the Mama Elephant Small Talk Stamp Set using MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink. I colored in the letters and bugs with Copic Markers and erased the pencil line.

I stamped the thought bubbles from the Mama Elephant Small Talk Stamp Set using ME Moonlight Pigment Ink, Smoke Pigment Ink, and Dark Storm Pigment Ink.

I die cut under the stamped greeting/scene using one of the borders from the Speech Trio Creative Cuts dies. I die cut the SSS Slate Cardstock with the same die and matted the white border. I adhered the matted strip to a white card base with foam adhesive.

Mama Elephant Stamp Highlight | Woodland Gifts Card (video)

Today the Mama Elephant Design Team is showcasing the new Woodland Gifts Stamp Set and coordinating Woodland Gifts Creative Cuts dies. I combined the cute critters and images with the Grassy Trio Creative Cuts dies, Stitched Sky Creative Cuts dies, and the stitched rectangle from the Basic Set Creative Cuts dies.

To create the background, I die cut SSS Surf Blue Cardstock and SSS Green Leaf Cardstock using the stitched rectangle from the Basic Set Creative Cuts dies. From the green rectangle I die cut two grassy borders using the Grassy Trio Creative Cuts dies. I stamped two of the phrases from the Woodland Gifts Stamp Set on one of the grassy borders using Versamark Ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder.

I adhered both grass borders along the bottom of the blue rectangle. I die cut clouds from smooth white cardstock and vellum using the Stitched Sky Creative Cuts dies and adhered them to the background scene.

I stamped the images from the Woodland Gifts Stamp Set on smooth white cardstock using MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink and colored in the images using Copic Markers, then die cut the critters and accessories using the coordinating Woodland Gifts Creative Cuts dies.

I adhered the scene to a white card base and added detail to the eyes of the critters with a black gel pen to finish the card.
