I've cleaned out some more of my studio and have some great stuff in need of a loving new home. :)

Distress Ink Florals with My Favorite Things + Ranger

Today I'm sharing  some favorite My Favorite Things Die-namics colored with Ranger Distress Inks for this pretty floral card. All the florals and the background started out white and I added color with some of my favorite colors of Distress Inks.

The flowers were die cut from smooth white cardstock using the MFT Fresh Cut Flowers Dies and then colored in with Ranger Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Abandoned Coral, Fossilized Amber, Barn Door, Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn. 

For the background, I applied Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink to a piece of watercolor cardstock using the Mini Ink Blending Tool and spritzed the cardstock liberally with water in a Mini Mister. I let the ink dry and then die cut the watercolored background with the stitched rectangle from the Blueprints 13 Die-namics Collection.

I die cut a strip from vellum using the MFT Stitched Strip Vertical Dies. The word "grateful" was die cut from smooth white cardstock using a die from the MFT Words of Gratitude Die Collection and glued to the vellum strip. I stamped the rest of the greeting with Versamark using a phrase from the Thankful Thoughts Stamp Set and embossed it with white embossing powder.

The inked florals were adhered to the watercolored background, the vellum greeting strip adhered on top and the excess ends trimmed off. I adhered the panel to a white card base and finished with a sprinkling of Pretty Pink Posh sequins.

Bella Blvd Fabric Project | Zippered Bags

Happy weekend!

Little zippered pouches are a great way to store anything from a little on-the-go sewing kit to cosmetics or other essentials. Tuck one in a to-go bag and you’re all set!. And they're addictive! Once you've made one, you will want to make a bunch of them!

I love to use them in my sewing room to store binding clips, safety pins for basting and other sewing tools. Sorting everything into their own bag makes it easy to grab just what I need for any given project. I also keep a small bag handy with needles, thread and small scissors for that I can grab for those evenings when I’m sitting on the couch watching t.v. and sewing on bindings, etc.

I grabbed a bunch of scraps of my favorite Bella Blvd floral, hearts, and polka dot fabrics that match the wonderful Military Max Plaid yardage and sewed up five of zippered bags using THIS pattern. I had previously purchased this pattern and sewn some bags so I knew I liked it however if you’re looking to try out a zippered bag I’ve found a couple tutorials online that look good. THIS one is for a large zippered bag (similar to the largest one I made) and THIS one says it’s good for beginners and doesn’t have the boxed corners on the bottom. A search on Pinterest will show you many more tutorials and patterns as well! 

I really love how well this plaid fabric coordinates with some of my all-time favorite prints from past Bella Blvd collections! I made my bags more feminine but you could easily change up the top print on any of these for more masculine bags.

Each bag is lined with a coordinating Bella Blvd pattern or solid. Consider lining the bags with a laminated fabric if you’re going to be using them for cosmetics.

These little bags sew up so easy and fast and you will be sewing up little bags with all your fabric scraps!

Mama Elephant Designer Series | Tandem Ride

I'm back today with a Mama Elephant Designer Series project showcasing the adorably awesome Tandem Ride Stamp Set and coordinating Tandem Ride dies. Add in the Tandem Extras stamps and coordinating Tandem Extras dies and you can create any number of super cute cards!

Today I wanted to talk a little bit about "Adding Those Extra Finishing Touches". There are so many small things you can do when finishing up a card design that give it that little something extra that really makes it shine! I prefer my finishing touches to be something non-bulky that mails easily and there are lots of ways to achieve this.

Some of my favorite finishing touches:

• Adding detail to the eyes of critters or other images with a black pen.
• Adding white dots to cheeks of critters or other elements of stamped and colored images and catch lights to eyes.
• Adding a touch of sparkle over any image with the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Pen.
• Adding shine (and subtle dimension) to any image with a layer of Glossy Accents.
• Adding scattered confetti (create your own, stamp some or use sequins, enamel dots, etc.).

For the background of my card, I die cut some watercolor cardstock using the A2 sized frame from the Sew Fancy Creative Cuts die collection and combined the Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink and Twisted Citron Distress Ink. I lightly spritzed the background with water in a MIni Mister and set it aside to dry.

The images from the Tandem Ride and Tandem Extras stamp sets were stamped on smooth white cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored in with Copic Markers. The individual marker colors are linked below in supplies and listed in the upper left corner of the screen in the video tutorial. All images were die cut with the coordinating Tandem Ride and Tandem Extras Creative Cuts dies.

I added finishing touches to these stamped and colored images by first adding detail to all the eyes with a black glaze pen. I added white dotted detail to the cheeks on the balloons and catch lights to the eyes of the critters with a white gel pen. I applied a layer of Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Pen over each of the balloons and to the light on the bike. A think layer of Glossy Accents was applied to each of the balloons and to the bike for that great glossy, slightly raised finish.

I die cut another rectangle from white cardstock and also vellum using the Sew Fancy Creative Cuts die and then die cut cloud borders from those rectangles using a Landscape Trio Die. On the white cloud border I stamped a greeting from the Tandem Extras stamp set using the Hero Arts Ombre Mint to Green Ink.

I assembled the card scene and then finished the the design with a scattering of die cut confetti created using the Confetti Creative Cuts die.

Mama Elephant Stamp Highlight | Friend Indeed

Today the Mama Elephant Design Team is showcasing the new Friend Indeed Stamp Set and coordinating Friend Die. I used the greeting stamps and die together with the mice from Tandem Ride for this whimsical shaker card.

 

The frame for the shaker was created by combining the stitched rectangles from the Peek A Frame Die Collection and Basic Die Collection. The "window" for the shaker was die cut from a Studio Calico Transparency and adhered to the back of the white frame. The clouds were cut from both white cardstock and vellum using the scallop Landscape Trio Border Die. The white border was adhered to the front of the frame and the vellum border to the backside of the frame. A pattered paper die cut rectangle was adhered to the white card base.

The word "friend" was die cut from Simon Says Stamp Slate Gray cardstock using the Friend Die and adhered to the front of the shaker. The greeting from the Friend Indeed Stamp Set was stamped above the die cut word on the transparency using StazOn white ink and below the die cut word using Hero Arts Ombre Gray to Black Ink.

The mice from the Tandem Ride stamp set were stamped on watercolor cardstock using Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink and colored in with the Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers. The images were die cut with the coordinating Tandam Ride dies and adhered to the front of the shaker card.

Foam adhesive was used on the back of the shaker and then it was filled with Martha Stewart Confetti.

The front of the shaker card was finished with two small die cut confetti hearts created using the Confetti Die and silver glitter paper.

Mama Elephant Stamp Highlight | Blessed

The images from Potted Pretties were stamped on watercolor cardstock and colored in with the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers for a great watercolored look. Once the ink was dry, they were die cut with the coordinating Potted Pretties Dies.

The decorative edged panel was die cut from smooth white cardstock using a Sew Fancy die.

The greeting from the Blessed Stamp Set was stamped along the bottom of the long edge of the die cut panel using the Hero Arts Ombre Pool to Navy Ink.

The die cut Potted Pretties were adhered above the greeting and the panel was adhered to a white card base using foam adhesive.

Mama Elephant Stamp Highlight | Tandem Extras

Today the Mama Elephant Design Team is showcasing the new Tandem Extras Stamp Set and coordinating Tandem Extras Dies. My card today is a sweet scene featuring a critter, the balloons, and a greeting from Tandem Extras with some die cut "clouds" made with one of my all-time favorite dies, Landscape Trio.

I die cut a rectangle using the die from the Basic Die Collection. To create the colorful background I blended Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink, Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink, and Spun Sugar Distress Ink on watercolor cardstock. Once the inks were blended together I spritzed the entire rectangle with water in a Mini Mister and let the panel air dry while I worked on the rest of the card.

The critter and balloons from the Tandem Extras Stamp Set were stamped on watercolor cardstock using Jet Black Archival Ink and colored in with the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers, then die cut with the coordinating Tandem Extras Dies. Detail to the eyes and nose on all three images using the Sakura Black Glaze Pen and White Gel Pen make them pop.

I die cut cloud banks from smooth white cardstock and vellum using the stitched rectangle from the Basic Die Collection and then die cutting that piece with the scallop border from the Landscape Trio Die Collection. These were layered and adhered along the bottom of the inked rectangle. The greeting from the Tandem Extras Stamp Set was stamped on the white cloud border using the Hero Arts Mint to Green Ombre Ink.

The images were adhered to the scene and I finished the design with a scattering of Pretty Pink Posh sequins.
