Hello!
Today I'm sharing a bright and colorful beach scene featuring penguins from one of my most favorite MFT stamp sets ever, Penguins In Paradise. I just love these sweet little images and they're perfect for creating all kinds of adorable greeting cards! I paired these cuties with palm tress and a surf board from the Simon Says Stamp Warm Christmas Wishes Stamp Set and built a background with Lawn Fawn dies. This is what I absolutely love about card making... combining elements from several manufacturers to create one-of-a-kind designs!
I stamped the penguins and beach ball from the Penguins In Paradise Stamp Set and the trees and surf board from the Warm Christmas Wishes Stamp Set on smooth white cardstock using Simon Says Stamp Intense Black Ink, then colored in the images with Copic Markers. Because I used so many colors for the rainbow of color card, I've listed and grouped the colors below for easy reference:
Palm Trees: YG05, YG17, G07, E55, E57
Lights On Palm Trees: Y00, Y08
Beach Ball: R24, R46, YR04, YR07, Y08, Y19, YG05, YG17, B24, B26, W00, W1
Penguin with Floatie: W6, W7, W8, W00, W2, R00, YR07, R24, R29, R46, Colorless Blender
Penguin with Popsicle: W6, W7, W8, W00, W2, R00, YR07, B24, B26, B28, YR04, YR07, YR01
Surf Board: R81, R85, R24, R46, YR04, YR07, Y08, Y19, YG01, YG23, YG05, YG17, BG32, BG29, B24, B26, B66, B69, V06, V09, V15, V17
Once the images were completely colored, I die cut them with the coordinating Warm Wished Dies and Penguins In Paradise Dies. Now, I forgot that the MFT dies were solid and not frame cuts so I should have die cut them shape first, stamped, and then colored. Oops! Watch the video below for a tip on how to perfectly die cut these images without having to re-do them or hope that you're lining them up perfectly.
To build the background scene, I die cut two A2 rectangles from smooth white cardstock using a Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangle Die. From one of the rectangles I die cut two "sand" borders using the Stitched Hillside Borders Dies and I also cut a wave border using an Ocean Wave Borders Die. From another piece of smooth white cardstock I die cut several clouds using the Simple Puffy Clouds Dies and a sun using the Sun and Moon Dies.
Tumbled Glass Distress Ink was applied to the solid background rectangle. Antique Linen Distress Ink was applied to the two "sand" borders and Salty Ocean Distress Ink was applied to the ocean wave border. Squeezed Lemonade and Wild Honey Distress Inks were applied to the sun die cuts.
The scene was assembled as shown, tucking some components behind borders and some in front. A greeting from the Penguins In Paradise Stamp Set was stamped along the bottom edge of the card using black ink.
Detail was added to the eyes of the penguins with a black glaze pen, sparkle was added to the lights wrapped around the palm trees with a stardust glitter pen, and highlights were added to the inner tube with a white glaze pen.
