Hello friends! I'm so excited to be guest designing for My Favorite Things today with one of my favorite techniques to use with pigment inks. The Rock ’n Roll technique is fantastic to use with solid images like these fantastic ocean creatures from the Ocean Fun Stamp Set! This technique gives solid images a multi-colored look easily and the Distress Oxide Inks are the perfect inks for this fun technique.
I combined two colors of Distress Oxide Ink per image for multicolored underwater creatures! Starting with the lightest color first, I inked up an image and then gently rolled on the darker color along the bottom edge before stamping the image on smooth white cardstock. Here are the Distress Oxide color combinations I used for the sea creatures:
Red Fish: Fired Brick, Worn Lipstick
Jellyfish: Wilted Violet, Worn Lipstick
Yellow/Green Fish: Fossilized Amber, Peeled Paint
Yellow/Orange Fish: Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade
Crab: Fired Brick, Vintage Photo
The background was created by combining Cracked Pistachio, Broken China, and Faded Jeans Distress Oxide inks on Bristol Smooth Cardstock and then layering with stamped waves and bubbles from the Ocean Fun Stamp Set.
The sea creatures were die cut using the coordinating Ocean Fun Dies and adhered to the background as shown. Glossy Accents was applied to some of the bubbles and the eyes of the fish. A bit of water spritzed over the background with a Distress Sprayer adds additional distressing. The die cut Ocean Fun images were adhered to the background and a torn piece of Vintage Photo Distress Oxide inked cardstock was adhered along the bottom of the scene to finish the scene. A greeting from Ocean Fun was stamped along the bottom edge of the card to complete the design.
