Watch the creation of this friend mermaid masked scene card from start to finish below or click HERE to watch in HD:
When created a masked card you want to start by stamping the images that need masking. I stamped a mermaid, fish, turtle, and seaweed from the Beautiful Mermaids 6x8 Stamp Set on Bristol Smooth Cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black Ink. I stamped the images again on masking paper, cut them masks out and adhered them over the images.
The background was then inked with the Tumbled Glass and Stormy Sky Distress Oxide Inks included in the kit as well as Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink. Light rays were added by using the Honey Bee Stamps Ocean Scene Builder Stencils with Lawn Fawn Yeti Pigment Ink and Stormy Sky Distress Oxide Ink.
Once the inking was finished, the masks were removed.
The images were colored in with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. Bubbles from the stamp set were stamped on the background and filled in with Nuvo Crystal Drops in Gloss White. Nuvo Crystal Drops in White Blizzard were used to add sparkle to the mermaid's tail.
White pen detail was added to the mermaid's hair and the seaweed. Black pen detail was added to the eyes to really make them pop.
A greeting from the Beautiful Mermaids 6x8 Stamp Set was stamped with the clear embossing ink included in the kit and heat embossed with white embossing powder. The Big Friend die was die cut from the Aqua Glitter Cardstock from the kit and the shadow of the word was die cut from white cardstock adhered to Fun Foam with Stick It Adhesive. The greetings were layered and adhered above the stamped and embossed phrase as shown to finish the design.

You hit another one out of the park, Nichol! I love your underwater scene cards. You nailed the hair color just perfect. The white pen detail to the hair was the icing on the cake. Try dickblick.com for the Zig marker you are looking for. When I looked, they have 5 or 6 markers in brown shades. Seeing this card is making me think I really do need this kit. Hmmm. Thanks for the inspiration, as always.

I love your scene cards! It is fun seeing your creativity in action and even more fun listening to the excitement in your voice as the scene comes together. As for the brown marker, try carpediemmarkers.com. The brown is in stock.

Your cards are just darling, Nichol - love them! I have 4 young nieces who would really love them, too!
I order my Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers from markersupply.com . They have the 060-Brown and 061-Lt Brown - I think they carry every color, anyway! The price is $2.47 each - that's the best price I've found. Their shipping charges are reasonable, too!
