Welcome to Day 3 of my last minute Handmade Holiday 2018 Series!
I'm back with my fifth year of last minute handmade ideas! Five years, you guys. Wow. Thank you so much for your support of this series. I have been overwhelmed and almost considered not doing the series this year but I kept getting emails and comments asking for it so I sat down to make a list of projects I could do and I got really excited. So this series is for you crafting friends. I appreciate each and every one of you and y'all make this possible. Much love to everyone.
The goal of this series is adding handmade touches to gifts for our friends and family. Even with the craziness of the season I like to be able to personalize the gifts under our tree. Over the next couple of weeks I'll be sharing mostly quick (an hour or less) Handmade Holiday ideas for cards, tags and gift wrapping sure to add that handmade touch we all love. Most ideas will include multiples (today I created three gift bags)!
Each Handmade Holiday project blog post will feature a brand new, never before seen project(s) plus an incredible giveaway from a generous sponsor!
PLAID 3D TOTE BAGS WITH POLAR BEAR POCKETS
Each year I share an idea for a mini gift bag. This year I'm all about plaid everything. And cute die cut critters. I decided to pair the two in the red/black/white color combination that I'm using this year. Click the links below to view the previous years gift bags:
- Vellum & Yeti Favor Bags (2017)
- Reindeer Tote Bags (2016)
- Vellum Reindeer Goodie Bags (2015)
- Kraft Treat Bags (2014)

To watch the creation of these plaid 3D tote bags with polar bear pockets from start to finish, click HERE or watch below:
The tote was die cut from Lawn Fawn Chili Pepper Cardstock using the 3D Tote Bag Die. Each bag was stamped with Concord & 9th Plaid Background stamp set using black dye ink. Once dry, the thin stripe was stamped with clear embossing ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder.
The pocket from the 3D Tote Bag Die was die cut from Black Licorice Cardstock and stamped with sentiments from the Retro Christmas Labels Stamp Set using a clear embossing ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder. The pocket was adhered to the front of each tote bag.
The polar bear from the Book Buddy Die set was die cut from smooth white, Ballet Slippers Cardstock, and Black Licorice Cardstock. The paws from the Inside Pop Bunny and Cat Die set was die cut from smooth white cardstock. The hat from the Favor Bag Add On Santa/Elf Set was die cut from Lawn Fawn Chili Pepper Cardstock and White Glitter Cardstock and adhered peeking out of the pocket as shown.
Tags from the 3D Tote Bag Die were die cut from smooth white cardstock and stamped with sentiments from the Holiday Messages Stamp Set using Chili Pepper Ink.
Black ribbon was tied around the handles of each bag and the tag was threaded onto the ribbon and tied into a bow.
Eyelashes were added to the eyes, Glossy Accents to the nose, and white highlights to the eyes and nose (once dry).
