It's DieCember at Simon Says Stamp and today Simon Says Stamp and Hero Arts has rolled out an incredible exclusive die perfect for the holiday season, the Christmas Sweater Die. I have been addicted to all things stitching lately so I decided to incorporate some french knots out of bright and colorful crochet thread to adorn my "ugly" Christmas Sweater. I used hand stitching, inlay die cutting, and rhinestones to make this sweater really pop. I kept the rest of the design super simple with a bold black stamped sentiment and a scattering of silver mini star confetti!

Watch the creation of this ugly Christmas Sweater die cut card from start to finish below or click HERE to watch in HD:
The Christmas Sweater Die was die cut from Gina K Turquoise Cardstock, Passionate Pink Cardstock, Sweet Mango Cardstock, Wild Dandelion Cardstock, and Lawn Fawn Cilantro Cardstock. A craft knife was used to remove the tree portion completely. I used the inlay technique to add the tree, star, and heart accents "into" the sweater.
I have a collection of crochet thread from Hobby Lobby that I love and I used this to create french knots in the rest of the die cut sweater design. French knots add the perfect texture to the die cut holes in the sweater. If you don't have crochet thread, embroidery floss would also work!
Honey Bee Stamps Rainbow Rhinestones were used to embellish the tree on the sweater.
A sentiment from the Winter Holiday Messages Stamp Set was stamped with Intense Black Ink on the white background. Another phrase from the Peace, Love, & Joy Stamp Set was stamped on black cardstock with clear embossing ink and heat set with white embossing powder before being adhered to the card with foam adhesive.
The entire background panel was adhered to a white side fold card base with foam adhesive to hide the crochet thread mess on the backside of the panel.
The card was finished with a scattering of silver mini star confetti.

I completely understand what you meant with the ugly sweater, what is more awesome than go to friends for a Christmas party in the most "wrong" Christmas sweater you can imagine.
Thank you for showing Nichol.

Great card!!! I kept looking at the French knots before I read the article trying to figure out what they were. I haven't heard about French knots in years. I worked in a needlework shop a longggg time ago. I gave up stitching for card making but I made quite a few French knots back then. I love that you added this to your sweater!!! Beautiful!!!

Fantastic ugly/cute sweater, Nichol. What a fun die! I could not figure out how you did the trim until I read the directions. How fun that it is french knots. What size crochet thread do you recommend? Thanks for sharing.

A fabulous job on this card Nichol. All of those little inlaid pieces are really what makes this so great. Beautifully done as always.
