The "quilt blocks" were assembled as shown in the video above.
A greeting from the CZ Design Clean Line Gratitude stamps and coordinating dies was stamped on Black Licorice Cardstock with clear embossing ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder. The sentiment was die cut using the coordinating die and adhered to the background with foam adhesive. Another phrase from the stamp set was stamped on smooth white cardstock with black ink and die cut with a Nested Banners Die. The strip was adhered to the card with foam adhesive.
The design was finished with a Funfetti Heart accent.

Hello friends! Have you seen the newest Distress color from Tim Holtz, Crackling Campfire?!!! It is a gorgeous orange color perfect for fall and beyond! I'm sort of obsessed. Smooth white cardstock was adhered to Fun Foam with Stick It Adhesive. The adhesive was also placed on the back of the Fun Foam. The Big Thanks Die was die cut from the dimensional sandwich and inked with Aged Mahogany and Crackling Campfire Distress Oxide Inks. The greeting was adhered to the "shadow" die cut from smooth white cardstock and adhered to the center of the design as shown.
The MFT Stamps Ghoulish Greetings Background was stamped on a 4" x 5 1/4" panel of smooth white cardstock with clear embossing ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder. Crackling Campfire and Black Soot Distress Oxide Inks were applied over the inked area, blended, and the excess ink buffed away from the embossed areas. A Distress Sprayer was used to add oxidation to the and Gansai Tambi Starry Colors gold watercolor was splattered over the background for additional distressing.
A clear embossing ink pad was swiped on a scrap of smooth white cardstock and the Crackling Campfire Embossing Glaze was applied to the ink twice and heat set. The Boo! sentiment was die cut from the glazed cardstock and adhered to the top of two more die cut greetings for a bit of dimension. The greeting was adhered to the panel as shown. A Sentiment Strips Halloween greeting was trimmed into a thin strip and adhered with foam adhesive.
The Friendly Ghosts Die was die cut multiple times from smooth white cardstock. Circles were die cut from Black Licorice Cardstock and adhered behind the faces. The ghosts were adhered around the perimeter of the card with foam adhesive as shown. Any excess was trimmed away with scissors. I kept some of the tails and adhered them in open areas with liquid adhesive.
To easily trim the background so the design is centered I used a Basic Rectangles Die.
A Hexagon Greetings image was stamped on smooth white cardstock with clear embossing ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder. The greeting was inked with Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide Ink for embossed resist and adhered to the background with foam adhesive.

Welcome to the August Edition of Making the Cut, my monthly video series at Simon Says Stamp! This month I am sharing a trio of modern squares backgrounds cards created with Basic Squares Wafer Dies. I love finding ways to take basics from my stash and using them in fun and unusual ways! Something as simple as a square is instantly transformed when tipped at an angle and inlaid for a stunning pattern! Pop a gorgeous floral die and sentiment strip on top and you have beautiful cards for any occasion!

THE BACKGROUNDS
All three backgrounds were created exactly the same with the Basic Squares Wafer Dies. Six squares were die cut and then five squares were die cut again with the next smallest square, essentially giving you five frames and a square. The center of each top fold card base was found with a ruler and I placed a small pencil mark there. Taking the largest frame, I adhered it to the top of the card and trimmed the excess. The next large frame was adhered next to it on a side and the excess trimmed. The excess pieces were then used to fill in the bottom and other side of the panel. The rest of the frames/squares were adhered the same way until the entire background was finished.
Inlaying the squares/frames gives you a nice flat panel, perfect for embellishing, isn't too thick, and is easy to mail. I don't recommend placing squares one on top of another as the layers get super thick, making them difficult to trim with scissors or a paper trimmer and you won't be left with a flat surface to embellish.
Once the background was assembled, Stick It Adhesive was adhered to both sides of a piece of Neenah 80 lb. Cardstock. A Crocus Flowers die was die cut from the cardstock, the backing paper removed from the floral, and adhered to the front of the card. Another Crocus Flower was die cut from a separate piece of smooth white cardstock. The backing paper was removed from the flower on the front of the card and the other die cut adhered on top. The flower was also die cut from Simon Says Stamp Lavender Cardstock and Hero Arts Palm Cardstock. The flower pieces were inlaid into the design.

Happy Friday! Earlier this month when I was sharing some cards featuring the Simon Says Stamp Let's Connect Release products I asked what you wanted to see used from the release and the overwhelming winner was the Crackle Background (and Reverse Crackle Background) so today I'm sharing my take on ink smooshing over a stamped and embossed crackle background and y'all.... it might just be my favorite way to use this background. Seriously. The results are so, so good! In addition to the ink smooshing I used the Summer Roses Gina K Exclusive for Simon Says Stamp. Let's get started!

THE BACKGROUND
The Crackle Background was stamped on a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel of Bristol Smooth Cardstock with clear embossing ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder.
Speckled Egg, Antique Linen, and Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide Inks were pressed into a glass mat work surface, spritzed with only 1 - 2 times with water and picked up with leftover stamp packaging before being "smooshed" into the background.I love how this gives a more organic, imperfect look than ink blending. The embossed areas resist the ink making this the perfect crackle background! What colors would you use? The possibilities are endless and I can't wait to try this with all my favorite Distress Ink color combos!
When the background is dry, I die cut it with an A2 Thin Frames Die and discarded the thin frame. I also die cut the thin frame from Polished Gold Mirror Cardstock. The outer frame, gold thin frame, and center panel were then adhered to a white top fold card base.

The Tri Fold Edge Village Fancy Dies were die cut from three pieces of smooth white cardstock and the houses were colored in with the following Copic Marker color combinations:
Pink: RV55, RV63
Red: R24, R29
Orange: YR02, YR04
Yellow: Y08, Y18
Green: YG13, YG17
Aqua: BG13, BG15
Blue: B14, B16
Purple: B63, B66
A sentiment from the Comfort and Joy Messages Stamp Set was stamped on the first layer with Comfort and Joy Messages Stamp Set and all three layers were adhered to the snowflake background as shown. I ended up inlaying in the doors and trees of the village but not the windows.
FINISHING TOUCHES
Red heart Funfetti were adhered coming up from the chimney in the background.
Hero Arts Icicle Glitter was applied along the edges of each village. Not only does this add "snow" to the borders but it also covers up any coloring mishaps!

All three cards feature the absolutely incredible Spider Web Background Glimmer Plate. This amazing glimmer plate can be foiled twice per background to create a complete frame. Or only use it along the top of bottom. The detail is incredible and it's my absolutely favorite spider web product!
The bats and moon clipped square was adhered directly to a white top fold card base. A spider web was die cut from vellum using a Spooky Boo Die and adhered between the two clipped squares frames. The frames were adhered in place on the front of the panel and the panel was adhered to the card base with foam adhesive.
Spooky Boo Dies bats and a spider were die cut from FSJ Black Licorice cardstock and adhered to the card. The spider was finished with a layer of Glossy Accents.
A glimmer sentiment from the Spooky Greetings Glimmer Plate was foiled on the background with Black Foil for a layered foiling look. This is one of my favorite foiling effects!
A sentiment phrase from the Simon Says Stamp Zombie Boo Stamp Set was stamped below the foiled greeting using clear embossing ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder.

The background was die cut with the Write On clipboard card base. This won't cut the top of the panel since it's made to cut a clipboard shaped card. I used a paper trimmer to cut the top of the shape. A white top fold card base was die cut with the Write On clipboard card die to create the shaped card. The foiled panel was adhered to the card base.
The clip from the Write On die set was die cut from Gold Mirror Cardstock, assembled, and adhered to the top of the clipboard card.
To give the tips of the paintbrushes "paint" I die cut the paint brush tips twice. Once from FSJ River Stone Cardstock and once from a bright color. The bright color was hand cut with scissors and adhered to the brush tip.
Nuvo Crystal Drops in White Blizzard were applied to the paint tubes. Glossy Accents was applied to the paint brush tips and paint palette.
