Bella Blvd Fresh Market Fabric | Pineapples Quilt

Hello quilting friends!

I'm sew super excited to share with you all my finished Pineapples Quilt. This quilt has been on my to-do list for awhile now and when I saw the Bella Blvd Fresh Market fabric collection for Riley Blake I knew this was the perfect collection for my quilt! If you follow my Instagram account or Facebook Fan page you probably saw the process photos for my quilt.

The Fresh Market collection didn't have quite enough variety of yellows and greens for my pineapples but one of the things I love best about the Bella Blvd fabric collections is how well all the past collections work with the new ones! I combined green prints from Military Max, Sunny Happy Skies, Summer Breeze, Puppy Park, and Fresh Market collections. I combined yellow prints from Puppy Park, Sunny Happy Skies, Summer Breeze, Too Cute To Spook, and Fresh Market collections.

This free pineapple pattern is available HERE. After piecing my quilt I had it  professionally long arm quilted by Crinklelove using the Plaid Edge to Edge Pattern. 

The back of my quilt is the Fresh Market Black Fresh Market Pineapple fabric and bound with the Yellow Fresh Market Slice. The finished quilt measures approximately 62" x 78".

I have an extra pineapple block that I'm sewing up into a matching throw pillow plus I'm almost finished with several of THESE Fresh Market feed sack tote bags and will be adding them to my newly opened Etsy shop Handcraft Happiness a little later this weekend!

Bella Blvd Fresh Market Quilted Feed Sack Tote Bag

Happy Friday sewing and quilting friends!

I am honored to be sharing the first of several new fabric creations with the newest Bella Blvd Fresh Market fabric collection with you all today both here and on the Bella Blvd Blog (please check out the Bella Blvd Blog for great inspiration). If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you may have seen me sharing some in progress photos of this bag and a quilt showcasing these awesome fabrics. Be sure to stay tuned because I will be sharing more sneak peeks soon!

I pulled nine of my favorite prints from the Fresh Market Fabric Collection for my tote bag today (it was so hard to choose just nine!) plus I added my favorite Bella Blvd print of all time, the Puppy Park Black Crosshatch. It's a fabulous "basic" and really puts the emphasis on the bright and fun colors of the Fresh Market collection.

This feed sack tote bag is perfect for taking to the grocery store, beach, pool, toting your Bella Blvd Illustrated Faith projects, etc.! I used the largest size from THIS Fig Tree Quilts pattern. I think I want to make this in every size! So fun!

This quick and easy bag came together in one afternoon. I used some Soft and Stable in place of interfacing to give a bit more body and structure to my bag.  

Simple straight line stitching perfectly compliments the design of this bag.

Bella Blvd Fabric Project | Rainbow Heart Mini Quilt

Last week my newest Bella Blvd fabric was shared on the Bella Blvd blog and today I'm going to share it here with my readers.

The heart pillow tutorial I shared last month was inspired by THIS free pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop. I love the rainbow design of the heart mini quilt and knew it would  look amazing with the 5” squares of scrap Bella Blvd Fabric! This mini measuring 27 1/2” square came together so quickly and would look great hung on the wall or used as a table topper.

I purposely kept the color combination to a “rainbow” look with a white background so the heart would really pop. I backed the mini quilt with the Snapshots Family Pink Fabric and bound the quilt with a scrappy binding made from several 2 1/2” wide strips of Bella Blvd fabrics.

I used simple straight line quilting (my favorite) for this little mini quilt.

Bella Blvd Fabric Project | Pixelated Heart Quilted Pillow

Hello fabric loving friends!

Today I'm excited to be over on the Bella Blvd Blog sharing a new project using scraps of pink Bella Blvd Fabrics.

I love the look of pixelated heart quilted projects. I especially love hearts for February Valentine’s decorating but hearts are great for any time of year. I specifically chose scrappy 2 1/2” squares of pink Bella Blvd fabrics for my Scrappy Pixelated Heart Pillow to use for my Valentine’s decorating but by simply changing up the colors, this design could be used any time of the year.

What you need:

• 30 - 2 1/2” squares printed fabric
• 16 - 2 1/2” squares solid or neutral fabric
• 2 - 4 1/2” x 12 1/2” strips solid or neutral fabric
• 2 - 4 1/2” x 20 1/2” strips solid or neutral fabric
• 20” square solid or neutral fabric
• 4” x 20” strip solid or neutral fabric
• lining fabric
• batting
• zipper

*Finished size: 20” square pillow form

Gather and trim 30 - 2 1/2” squares printed fabric and 16 - 2 1/2” square solid or neutral fabric.

Lay out squares as shown. Several of the squares will be half squares triangles when finished but just get the general layout of fabrics out in rows.

Sew 10 of the squares into half square triangles. Press towards darker fabric. Sew the fabric squares into rows as shown. Pressing each row in opposite directions, then sew the rows together for the center square.

Sew the 4 1/2” x 12 1/2” strips to each side of the square. Trim any excess off the ends. Sew the 4 1/2” x 20 1/2” strips to the top and bottom and square up panel to a 20” square.

Sandwich pieced pillow top, batting and backing fabric and quilt as desired.

Trim backing fabric and lining fabric into:

1 - 6” x 20” piece

1 - 14” x 20” piece

Sew the backing fabric to the lining fabric together, wrong sides together and overcast the edges. 

Trim the zipper flap fabric to 4” x 20”. Fold in half and press. Sew zipper flap to the smaller backing piece along one long edge. Sew one side of the zipper to the top piece of the backing and the other side of the zipper to the bottom panel.

Pin and sew the backing to the front panel. Be sure to unzip the zipper halfway so the pillow can be turned right side out.

Bella Blvd Fabric Project | Flower Pin Cushion

Today I'm sharing a quick fabric project with you using some of my favorite yellow, orange, and green Bella Blvd Fabrics. I’ve been wanting to make the flower pincushion from the Fig Tree Quilts With Fabric & Thread Book for quite some time. What better fabric than with some of my all-time favorite Bella Blvd. oranges, yellows, and greens. With just a few scraps of fabric and batting and a little stuffing I was able to sew up this sweet pincushion that matches the zippered bags in my sewing room! Add a few decorative pins and you have a lovely decorative pincushion that is sure to bring a smile every time you look at it!

There's quite a bit of hand stitching for the pin cushion. Use a strong needle to get through the batting layer in the petals and leaves!

I think these would also be cute sewn up in several colors and used as springtime decor!

LINED FABRIC DRAWSTRING GIFT BAGS

Today I'm taking a quick break from paper crafted bags, tags, and packaging to share an idea for fabric lined drawstring gift bags! These are truly a package that can be used and reused over and over! I love a pretty packaged gift almost as much as a gift itself. When I saw this Lined Drawstring Bag Pattern I knew I had to sew some up as pretty fabric gift bags for the holidays. The pattern shows how to make this great bag in eight sizes. I made three out of black, gray, white, and red fabrics. The gray and black fabrics are all from Riley Blake Bella Blvd Collecitons and the red heart fabric is another Riley Blake fabric from Doodlebug Design. The Snack Bag (small) is 7” x 4.5” x 8”. The Everything Bag (medium) is 7” x 10” x 10”. The Project Bag (large) is 8” x 12” x 13”. 

These bags sew up so quickly that I made up all three in a little over an hour! 

Pretty ribbon and lace drawstrings add an elegant touch to these lovely fabric gift bags. 

The colors of these bags work wonderfully for the holiday season but would be perfect for Valentine’s Day too! Consider making some up in other fabrics and colors for birthdays or just to store and tote kids’ toys. The larger drawstring bags would be great for older kids’ laundry. The possibilities are endless!

The Snack Bag (small) is 7” x 4.5” x 8”.

The Project Bag (large) is 8” x 12” x 13”.

Bella Blvd Fabric Project | Prairie Point Flour Sack Towels Tutorial

Happy Cyber Monday! It's the last day of November, can you believe it?!!!!

Today I have a quick and easy fabric tutorial project to share with you that is perfect for creating lovely holiday gifts.

One of my favorite parts of holiday decorating is changing out our dishes to display and use our Christmas themed dishware for the season. I always love having holiday-themed placemats, napkins, towels, etc. for the season as well. Today I’m going to share a quick and easy idea to dress up flour sack towels (tea towels) showcasing Riley Blake Bella Blvd fabrics (with a couple of other Riley Blake fabrics in red thrown in for that Christmas-y feel!). With just a few scraps of fabric and inexpensive flour sack towels, you can embellish towels for yourself or whip up several like I did to share as gifts throughout the holiday season! 

What you need:

• 3” x width of fabric strip for the border
• 2 1/2” wide strips from scraps (or longer if you want a more uniform design)
• tea towel

 

Sew two, 2 1/2” wide strips together to make a 4 1/2 wide strip. Trim each long strip into 4 1/2” squares. I made mine scrappy from leftover 2 1/2” strips but you could make a more uniform design with longer strips.

Fold 4 1/2” square into triangle and press.

 

Fold triangle in half again and press. Repeat for the rest of the squares. I used 8-9 prairie points per flour sack towel, depending on the length.

Take a new flour sack towel, fold in half lengthwise and trim hemmed edge off one end of the towel. (This will lessen the bulk once we sew on the prairie points and fabric border.)

 

Pin prairie points to the towel, matching wrong sides of praire points and towel together. Slightly overlap the prairie points as shown. You could sew or baste these in place if you want to but I like to wait and sew both the prairie points and border all at once. 

 

Measure the width of your flour sack towel. This is really important because out of all the towels I embellished, I got three different widths! Trim your 3” wide strip to 1” longer than the width of your flour sack towel. For example, my towel was 29 1/2” wide so I trimmed my fabric strip to 3” x 30 1/2”.

 

Fold strip right side together and sew 1/2” from each end.

 

Trim 1/4” from stitching and trim corners to make for easier turning. Flip right sides out and press.

 

Pin fabric strip to towel, matching raw edges. Sew 1/4” along edge to attach prairie points and fabric strip to flour sack towel.

 

Flip fabric strip up and press. Your prairie points should now hang from the edge of the towel and all raw edges will be encased once we top stitch.

 

Top stitch along both edges of the fabric strip, close to the edge to finish the towel.

Make a whole bunch for every season!

Bella Blvd Fabric Project | Halloween Navajo Stars Quilt

Last fall I saw a Halloween quilt made with the Fig Tree Quilts Navajo Stars Pattern and I immediately pinned it knowing I had to make one to add to our Halloween home decor.

For my quilt I pulled Riley Blake Bella Blvd fabrics in shades or orange, gray and black from the Halloween Magic, Too Cute To Spook, Military Max, Snapshots and Puppy Park Collections for my version of the quilt. One of my favorite things about the Riley Blake Bella Blvd Fabric Collections is how easily so many of the designs mix and match and work together!

I love how the Halloween Navajo Stars look like spider webs on a white on white background. While the navajo stars look difficult the process was actually a breeze. No y-seams at all. The pattern explains the piecing process in detail however I found Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree Quilt’s Smarter Strip Quiliting Class at Craftsy super helpful in learning how to work with angles easily. 

I chose to have this quilt professional quilted since I enjoy the piecing process but maneuvering a large quilt on my machine can be a bit of a hassle. I used Crinklelove.com and can’t recommend them enough! Great service, speedy turn around and the quilting….just fabulous! When I received the quilt back from them I sewed on the binding and my family’s new Halloween Quilt is ready to be enjoyed!

Finished quilt measures: 68” x 68”

The quilt is backed with the Halloween Magic Black Halloween Stars fabric.

Today I have a new Bella Blvd fabric project to share... Haunted House Mug Rugs. With fall quickly approaching, I’m in the mood for snuggling under a warm quilt with a mug of hot chocolate and a good book. If you’re like me and need something to place that mug or glass on, these fun haunted house mug rugs sew up super quick and are the perfect Halloween coffee/end table decor!

I have loved THIS pattern from Sweetwater and decided with some fun Bella Blvd fabrics, these houses would make cute haunted houses! I mixed and matched some fabric scraps from the Bella Blvd Too Cute To Spook and Halloween Magic Collections leftover from another project to create these sweet mug rugs.

I was able to sew up all four mug rugs in a little under 3 hours using mostly leftover scraps from a large quilt project (that I'll be sharing next month). Quick and easy, who doesn’t love that?!!!

Each mug rug measures approximately 8” x 9”. These would make great gifts if tucked in a basket with some other fall goodies too!

Bella Blvd Fabric Project | Patchwork Pumpkin Pillow Cover

Happy Saturday! I've got a Bella Blvd Fabric Project to share with you today. I love switching out my pillow covers seasonally. With fall right around the corner, I whipped up this sweet pumpkin quilted pillow cover using leftover scraps from a Halloween quilt I’m piecing! Once the quilt is finished, I will have a coordinating set to adorn the living room couch!

To created the quilted pillow cover, I pieced and quilted the pumpkin using a design from Lori Holt’s Farm Girl Vintage Book and Halloween themed fabrics from Bella Blvd’s Halloween Magic and Too Cute Too Spook fabric collections. The block design in the book has instructions for both the 12” block and 6” block. I used the 12” block and added 2” borders all the way around for a 16” pillow cover. I quilted the cover and then created a zippered pillow cover using one of the prints from the block for the backing.

In addition to the fun Bella Blvd fabric prints in the pillow cover, I also incorporated a print from the Military Max collection for the leaf and a print from the Puppy Park collection for the stem. One of the orange prints in the pumpkin is from the Snapshots Collection. I love mixing and matching the different Bella Blvd fabric collections when sewing up scrappy projects!
