Guest Designer Neat & Tangled | Into The Woods Thank You Card

Happy Friday friends! I'm so excited to announce that I'm the Guest Designer for Neat & Tangled for November! I'm starting off the month with a thank you card showcasing the new Into The Woods Stamp Set, coordinating dies, and Scalloped Dies!

Greetings can be used to create a “foundation” to build a scene. I used the long greeting from the Into The Woods Stamp Set along the bottom edge of a die cut scalloped rectangle and then added stamped, colored, and die cut critters and images on top for this fall-themed thank you card. An embossed resist background and paint splatters add additional interest to the background.

I die cut a scalloped rectangle from watercolor cardstock using the largest Scalloped Die. I stamped a greeting and the "floating" leaves image from the new Into The Woods Stamp Set along the bottom edge with Versamark Ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder. I applied Gathered Twigs, Wild Honey, and Scattered Straw Distress Inks over the background rectangle and the embossed areas resisted the ink. I added drops of watered down Picket Fence, Tarnished Brass, and Antiqued Bronze Distress Paints to the background for a more "distressed" look.

I stamped the images from the new Into The Woods Stamp Set on smooth white cardstock and colored them in with Copic Markers before die cutting with the coordinating dies. Detail was added to the images with the Sakura white gel pen, black glaze pen, and stardust glitter pen.

I adhered the images above the stamped and embossed greeting, using the greeting as a "foundation" for building my scene. I adhered the scalloped panel to a white side fold card base to complete the design.

SIMPLE STORIES | Christmas Card Photos From Friends and Family (2 layouts)

Today I'm sharing one of my favorite projects I work on every year, scrap-booking Christmas Card Photos from friends and family. I have an entire album (or two!) dedicated to recording those treasures that come in the mailbox during the holiday season. I have 2 two-page layouts to share with you. 

This first page share showcases some of the photo cards we received last year at Christmas-time. I originally scrapbooked these photos in a pocket page format (see THIS post). I was trying out something new and it just didn't work for me and the album(s) I already started years ago. I decided to create a traditional page instead and was able to salvage the photos and rearrange them. I think the pocket scrapbooking would be a great system for memory keeping the holiday photos received every year but I just couldn't make the leap to a new system! LOL

I used the beautiful Cozy Christmas Collection, using the gorgeous bokeh background of the Sparkle Flurries/Ledger Paper across the two-page background with a strip of the Oh Joy Patterned Paper along the left side of the page.

I die cut a title from the Kerri Bradford Studio TwentyThirteen Kit and added stickers from the Fundamental Cozy Christmas sticker sheet and Cozy Christmas enamel dots for added color and interest. I used number stickers from the Cozy Christmas Expressions 12x12 Cardstock Sticker Sheet on each photo to correspond back to the journaling.

I added the fun hanging ornament stickers from the Cozy Christmas Fundamentals Sticker Sheet along the top edge of the two-page spread for a pop of color and interest. (I needed two sticker sheets to create the long hanging ornament border seen here.)

I randomly added sticker phrases to a couple of the photos and finished the page with a bit of stamping above the printed journaling using the Ellen Essentials Merry & Bright Stamp Set and some Cozy Christmas Fundamentals heart stickers and Bits and Pieces die cuts.

My second layout features the remaining photos from 2012 that I hadn’t scrap-booked. I used the DIY Christmas Collection for this page and a green/cream/black color scheme. The snowflake background paper is from Simple Stories December Documented Collection that is retired (last year's Christmas collection). I loved the way the black played with the cream and green of this year's DIY Christmas Collection. Don't be afraid to mix and match your patterned papers/collections!

I layered stickers from the DIY Christmas Sentiment Stickers on a piece of Grinch Green DIY Christmas paper. I printed a sub-title above the stickers and finished the title block with additional stickers from the DIY Christmas Icon Stickers and DIY Christmas enamel dots.

I added number stickers from the DIY Christmas Word/Letters Stickers on each photo to correspond back to the journaling. I finished the page with heart stickers, enamel dots and phrase stickers.

KBS Christmas in July | Christmas Cards From Friends & Family 2013 (layout)

Even thought the temperatures are soaring in these parts I was inspired by Kerri Bradford's latest kit, Hello December, to take a bit of time and work on scrapbooking last year's Christmas Card photos from friends and family.

I incorporated quite a few of Kerri's designs into my spread. Here's a breakdown of what shape from what kit I used:

  • Hello December (3x4 journaling cards)

I create yearly layout spreads for the Christmas card photos we receive from friends and family each year. For last year's cards I decided to take the plunge and create a pocket-style layout that works perfectly with Kerri's Hello December cards!  

I customized the title card with an arrow from the Just My Type Kit and my own text. I made sure to turn the cut lines off anything I didn't want cut so that only the card shape was cut on my die cutting machine and not the text or shapes.

Vellum number overlays on the photos keep the focus on the photos but coordinate back to the journaling card.

I customized one of Kerri's Hello December cards with a faux "vellum" overlay and journaling in the Silhouette Software before printing the card(s) with my printer and cutting the card(s) out with my Cameo.

Some wood veneer accents, overlays, star sequins and other gold star accents and frames add embellishment and a touch of whimsy to my page.

Lawn Fawn October Inspiration Week | Frosty Friends, Winter Owl & Bunny Lawn Cuts (a layout)

Welcome in to Lawn Fawn's October Inspiration Week!

I'm excited to share a new layout with you today featuring the Frosty Friends, Winter Owl & Bunny Lawn Cuts, and of course stamps!!!! I'm so, so happy these stamps have coordinating dies now! Creative bliss... so easy to make projects with the coordinating stamps + dies and I knew immediately that all these fun images would make a fun border for a pocket page on my "to do" list!

I stamped and colored all my images on Neenah Solar Whte Cardstock. Once everything was colored and embellished, I die cut each image and then assembled the scene below...

The LF snowflake sequins were the perfect embellishment and really added to the whole snow-y scene!

I wanted my title to match the rest of the page and the LF Quinn's ABC's and 123's plus coordinating dies made it easy to stamp, color and die cut a perfectly matching title! And Milo's ABC's made for the perfect sub-title! LOVE that little alpha!

October Studio AE Blog Hop from Technique Tuesday

Hello stampers! 

Today I'm excited to be sharing a new scrapbook layout featuring Hello December by Ali Edwards, the Studio AE stamp set for October!

I used stamps from this month's stamp set and other stamps from Ali's collection to create embossed "chalkboard" art on black patterned paper from Simple Stories.

The stamped and embossed border serves as the title as well as embellishment for this page that goes in my Christmas Cards From Friends and Family Album.  This is one of my most favorite albums. The most useful little tool when embossing, IMO? The Embossing  Buddy. This keeps those pesky little embossing powder flakes from sticking to anything but the stamped image. I LOVE it!

I was able to get eighteen photos on this 2 page spread! Whoot!

I used six stamps from the October Studio AE Stamp Set and lots and lots of other stamps in my page design! I love being able to get lots of memories on one 2-page spread!

Happy Friday.

Remember THIS Christmas/Holiday Cards layout I shared a couple of weeks ago?

I finally got my ink order and got the ink in the printer. Ok, so the ink did come in a timely manner but I was in Vegas for 4 days, Chad and I celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary and then I let the ink sit in a box on my desk for 4 more days.

Efficient? Not so much.

Here's the layout with journaling strips. Now it looks finished! A page doesn't look complete to me unless it has some journaling. It could be a little or a lot, it doesn't matter. ;)

The journaling strips help "break up" the photo collages and helps your eye naturally move across the page.

Now that it's all finished up, in the album in goes.

Die cut words/titles/phrases are my favorite kinds of dies and this kit is chock full of 'em! All kinds of great travel related words/phrases but lots of stuff that will work for all kinds of scrapbook pages! The versatility of Kerri's kits are amazing!

Christmas Cards From Friends & Family | more 2011

Even though the temperature is 103 degrees this July day, I thought it would be fun to dream of cooler temperatures and celebrate the holidays by creating a little "Christmas in July" layout featuring die cut designs from Kerri Bradford Studio. I keep an album of all the Christmas or Holiday/New Year's photo cards we receive during the holiday season and I still had a few photos that needed a home. Typically I add the names of who's who in each photo (and I will this time too) but I ran into a bit of a printer malfunction (aka I ran out of ink and had to order more...boo!). Once I print the names on kraft cardstock, I'll cut them into strips and lay them over the bottom of each coordinating photo. Nothing fancy, just a nice way to remember and celebrate friends and family every year!

I adore creating die cut "scenes" by mixing and matching shapes from several different kits. I used 8 designs from 5 of Kerri's kits. I used the photo frame from the This & That Family kit as the "base" of my "scene" by resizing it big. Then I cut the pieces from lots of different Christmas colored papers and added a black die cut "shadow" to each for depth and dimension. Shadowing is my "go-to" technique for giving die cuts that little something extra that really makes them the star of the design.

FYI: When figuring out how to cut down and group my photos, I look for photo cards of approximately the same size and group them together in piles. Then I measure them to make sure I can cut them down without losing an entire person from the photo, etc. I fill in with those tiny tiny photos from multi-photo cards where needed to complete the design. ;) I've found over time that I like grouping these types of photos together. They make a bigger impact and most importantly I can fit a lot of my page!

White Studio Calico Mister Huey mist on the sign gives it a "snow" look perfect for a winter-themed layout.

To give the ice skates a more realistic look I threaded string through the die cut holes and "laced them up". Small touches like this really take your die cuts up a notch.

Scrap It Weekly 2012 | Week 5 (layout + video) + TS3 ANNOUNCEMENT!

This week I felt like I was finally ready to tackle one of the holiday layouts for my Christmas Cards From Friends and Family album from Christmas 2011. It's one of my most favorite albums ever. I love looking through it and seeing the changes in our friends and family over the years. Pure happiness.

In this week's video I give you a look at my album plus talk a little about my process for scrapping these yearly photo cards and handmade cards. For a complete look at the pages in my album please see the bottom of this post for links to every layout included in my Friends and Family album. :)

This week's layout was one of those that changed a lot from my original plan once I got into the layout. I switched out a lot of the product I thought I would use in lieu of other things, etc. It happens. Don't be afraid to deviate from your original path. I am so  happy with my finished layout and that is all that matters!

A huge showy title isn't necessary for this kind of yearly layout. It's okay to do one (and sometimes I do) but I decided to draw attention to my "2011" title with some circles, a couple of phrase stickers, banner stickers and a big showstopper poinsettia flower. Just lovely.

I added a couple more of these pretty poinsettias in the lower right corner of the 2-page spread to help draw your eye across the design and the page. Love the combination of a stamped a layered flower next to the die cut one.

Random border stickers, brads, buttons and these punched stars layered on the same patterned paper and sewn on with mini clear buttons add a subtle but effective page element.
