May Studio AE Blog Hop from Technique Tuesday

Hello and welcome to the May 2014 Studio AE Blog Hop!

This month the Studio AE Design Team is showcasing projects created with Today Circles by Ali Edwards, the Studio AE stamp set for May.

I used six of the stamps from the May Stamp Set on my page below. You might notice that although this is the Today Circles Stamp Set there isn't a circle on my page. It's really simple to ink up only the part of the stamp image you want to stamp, thus giving these circle word stamps an entirely different look! I'll show you how I did it in the video (below).

I used two of my favorite colors of Simon Says Stamp exclusive inks to stamp my title: SSS Audrey Blue Ink and SSS Smoke Ink.

I used three of the smaller images from the May 2014 Studio AE Today Circles Stamp Set to create a sub-title perfect as the lead in to my journaling.

Simple embellishments were all that was need to complete this fun summer-themed page!

I hope everyone is spending the day (or will get to spend some time today) crafting something fun. :)

I've got a new layout to share with you showcasing Kerri Bradford Studio cut files and a photo template!

I wanted this page about my oldest son's last Freshman football game of the 2013 season to have a "masculine" feel, after all this is a page about football, so I went with neutrals, pulling the reds from the colors on the uniforms and also to give the page a pop of color. 

I used a long brush stamp to add some faux "paintbrush strokes" using the MFT Jumbo Abstract Art Stamp Set stamped with Hero Arts Pale Tomato Ink along the right side of the the die cut folder (created by welding a rounded square shape and a KBS file tab from her Simplicities: Best Thing Ever Kit) and then added the die cut text from KBS Touchdown on top of the "paint". I love how it adds interest and color behind the text and how it really makes the words "pop"! 

I added additional stamped paint distressing using paint "splatters" from MFT Jumbo Abstract Art Stamp Set and MFT Abstract Art Stamo Set.

I added some small die cut text words to a 6x6 notebook patterned paper, combining "freshman" from the KBS School Years Add On Kit with "football" from the KBS Touchdown Kit. I added a realistic "notebook" edge to the top of the notebook paper using the KBS On the Edge Kit.

I asked my son for his memories from his last game of his Freshman Season and used his own words for the journaling. (I love that one day we can look back on this and actually "know" what happened in the game!) 

I included additional stamping using sports themed text from Kelly Purkey's What's Your Number Stamp Set and Game Day Stamp Set as well as the MFT  Have A Ball Stamp Set.

Simple Stories | All Squared Up (layout + video)

Hello there!

Today I have a new layout and set of cards to share with you, as well as a video showcasing Insta-Squares from Simple Stories. The Insta-Squares are pre-cut mini squares in 2x2, 3x3 and 4x4 sizes. I'm a big fan of using repetitive patterns or shapes on my layouts and other paper crafting projects and these Insta-Squares makes it so easy to create amazing projects!  

My layout today, uses an assortment of 2" squares from SS Homespun Insta-Squares and SS Summer Insta-Squares & Pieces. To give these squares even more "pop", I used MFT Pierced Square Die-namics Stax Dies to give the squares and square photos pierced decorative edges.

The dies make the 2" squares slightly smaller than 2" so I used my favorite ruler to figure out where to begin adhering these small squares so that the design would be centered in the middle of the white cardstock background. I left a space in the center of the page where I adhered a 4" square from the SS Homespun Insta-Squares. To that I then layered a vellum pierced die cut square and a 3" square from the SS Homespun Insta-Squares die cut with another one of the pierced nesting square dies. I embellished this title square with some Simple Stories stickers.

I embellished the smaller squares with additional Simple Stories stickers, sequins, enamel dots, etc.

I printed my journaling on a Sn@p! label sticker and adhered it across two of the 2" squares.

I just love the detail that pierced edge gives the squares!!!

The Insta-Squares also make super fast cards. I used the same nesting square dies to cut the center panels for the cards. I've created four completely different themed cards but they all four have the same design. I adhered a 4x4 patterned Insta-Square on a 4.25" square white card base, cut a piece of 4" square vellum to layer over the patterned design and then die cut the center Insta-Square and adhered the center piece with foam adhesive. Simple embellishments are all these cards need. The design of the Insta-Squares don't need much!

This light bulb card comes from the SS Birthday Insta-Squares & Pieces Collection but I think this makes a fab graduation card!

Finally, this heart card is from the SS Homespun Insta-Squares. I purposely left off a greeting so that this can add an appropriate greeting when needed!

April 2014 Studio AE Blog Hop from Technique Tuesday (video)

This month the Studio AE Design Team is showcasing projects created with Good Times, the Studio AE stamp set for April.

I created a layout using one of the stamps from this month's set paired with a phrase stamp from an old Ali Edwards set, Bits and Pieces, as the title of my page. I stamped and punched a bunch of circles using lots of Ali's other stamp sets to use as accents on my page as well.

I used a combination of SSS Audrey Blue and SSS Green Leaf inks to add color to the stamp from the April Studio AE stamp set. Then I applied a layer of Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Pen over the top for subtle sparkle! A phrase stamp from Ali's Bits and Pieces stamp set stamped in a brand new Simon Says Stamp ink (released on April 15th) completed the title "frame".

 

I stamped a bunch of circles from additional Ali Edwards stamp set pairing ink colors with the Amy Tangerine Plus One 6x6 papers for a tone on tone look. I added detailing with the Sakura white pen and/or the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Pen.

A scattering of additional embellishments adds interest and dimension.

I combined white paint with water to thin it a bit and flicked it over the background of my page for distressing. I cut all the frames for the page from 12x12 Plus One papers, Project Life cards and the Amy Tangerine Plus One 6x6 papers.

I stamped and embossed the banner from Ali's So Much Heart Stamp Set using silver embossing powder on vellum. I cut the banner out and layered it over the number card from Studio Calico's Lemonlush Collection.

Simple Stories | Combining Die Cuts with A Charmed Life Collection (Video)

Today I'm showcasing A Charmed Life Collection from Simple Stories with a new layout and card featuring combining the Simple Stories Silhouette Cut Files for one-of-a-kind titles and greetings.

The Simple Stories Silhouette Cut Files are fabulous "as is" however they can make an even bolder statement when grouped together and manipulated a bit to create all new looks!

For my layout today, I combined the following nine cut files to create a big, bold title for this summer-themed page:

After manipulating and resizing the files in the Silhouette Software, I cut all the text from a single sheet of A Charmed Life 12x12 patterned paper. Then I trimmed and mounted that sheet on another piece of 12x12 paper and "filled in" all the open text by die cutting the words from 6x6 patterned papers from A Charmed Life 6x6 Paper Pad and I Heart Summer 6x6 Paper Pad.

 

The assortment of colors and patterns gives the title much more interest and adds lots of color to the page! I used a glue pen adhere the letters without a mess.

 

I layered some of the phrase stickers from A Charmed Life Expressions 12x12 Sticker Sheet and I Heart Summer Expressions 12x12 Sticker Sheet on top of the photo strips and "secured" the photo strips to my page with "washi tape" stickers from the Sn@p! Icons Stickers.

I printed my journaling directly on the DIY Office Journal Layers and popped it up with a bit of foam adhesive, tucking the cute cloud and sunshine die cut from the Summer Sn@p! Insta-Squares & Pieces. 

 

I created a coordinating card from the same 6x6 patterned papers using the following cut files:

I manipulated the 4 cut files to create my own title. (I used only the letter "I" from the "Can You Believe This?" arrow). 

I popped up the "Love You" greeting on top of the card and layered a contrasting color of paper underneath the die cut "Always Remember I". By layering papers this way it addds visual interest and dimension to a relatively simple design!

I completed the card by adding detail with a white opaque pen, gemstones and adding some sparkle with a clear glitter marker to some of the hearts and adding Glossy Accents to a couple of them as well.

KBS | Gotta Love This (a layout)

Hello scrapbooking friends! 

After a busy week packed with tons of projects I'm finally getting around to sharing this layout featuring Kerri Bradford Studio cut files that went up on Monday!

I've wanted to scrapbook these photos of my daughter that I had pulled off an old layout eons ago but I was having trouble finding the "right" way to record the memory. Then there was the fact that I had cut up the photos into a bunch of odd shapes and I didn't want to have to go get them reprinted (this was pre-digi days!). After playing around with some color choices from my paper stash I came across the white Dear Lizzy Ruffle Paper in my stash and was inspired to go with a white on white layout with touches of gray to highlight the die cut title from the Kerri Bradford Studio Something To Say Kit and the camera die cut from the KBS Click Kit. Negative strip die cuts also from the KBS Click Kit hid the fact that my photos didn't all start out sized to fit the die cuts plus the photo in the bottom left corner was smaller than the negative opening and by placing that photo and the negative strip off the bottom of the page allowed it to "blend in" with the others! A scattering of beautiful die cut butterflies from Kerri's Design Secrets Class cut from an assortment of vellum and text paper, a sprinkling of gemstones and some white embossed stamping finished up the design.

I am head over heels for the new Kerri Bradford Studio Something To Say Kit. The brush style text titles are the perfect additon for scrapbook pages, project life and more! I cut mine to fit inside the negative strip die cuts and added a stamped sub-title underneath using the Ali Edwards Hearts Stamp Set. By stamping with Versamark and heat embossing with white powder, it gives a "softer" feeling that compliments the rest of the white on white design.

I am still loving the camera cut files from the KBS Click Kit! (You might remember seeing them before on THESE cards). I used all grays, whites and vellum for the camera on this page, adding a stamped stitched border from the SSS Only Have Eyes For You Stamp Set, a stamped trio of 3 small lines for the camera sides from the SSS Tiny Tags Stamp Set and a stamped circle with text from the Ali Edwards Look Here Stamp Set. The stamping really gives the die cut camera a "finished" look that I love!

I finished the page with a bunch of die cut butterflies from Kerri's Design Secrets Class. A sprinkling of gems, pearls, silver and enamel dots in white, clear and gray add a touch of glitz to the design.

Lawn Fawn | Let's Polka Collection (VIDEO)

Hey everyone! Today I'm really really excited to share a brand new layout featuring the Let's Polka Collection from Lawn Fawn.

I'm addicted to the cute new doll stamps and dies by Julie Nutting and thought what better to outfit these sweet girls than the 6x6 Let's Polka Collection papers! I used the Gracie Mixed Media Doll Stamp & Dies, Halie Mixed Media Doll Stamp & Dies and Zoe Mixed Media Doll Stamp & Dies, layered and adorned them in cute Let's Polka patterns and colored their skin and hair with Copics. Adding shading to the clothing with Copics and details with the Sakura White Opaque Glaze Pen, Sakura Black Glaze Pen, Sakura Clear Glitter Pen. Small dimensional embellishments like ribbon, trim and the LF Let's Polka Sequins complete these cute girls' ensembles! 

To make the "scene" and to ground the dolls I added a "grassy" landscape from one of the 12x12 Let's Polka papers using a design from the Silhouette Online Store (Design ID #3353) die cut on my Silhouette Cameo. To give the wavy grass border more interest I added a border stamp using the Belinda's Borders Stamp Set. I colored in the stamped design with Distress Markers and highlighted the design with the Sakura White Opaque Glaze Pen.

I paper pieced the flowers from Blissful Botanicals, mushrooms from Critters In the Forest and ladybug from On the Mend to complete the border. I added detailing with Distress Markers and Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Marker.  

I stamped the title using Milo's ABC's and Quinn's ABC's. I followed the wavy line to add interest to the title design. The journaling is printed directly on the Hello Sunshine Collection 12x12 paper background.

The sun and clouds from Spring Showers die cut from Let's Polka 6x6 papers is the perfect finishing touch to the scene. I added a black border to the shapes with a black marker to match the rest of the design.

Simple Stories | Die Cutting 3x4 Sn@p Sets Cards & Video

Today I'm blogging over on the Simple Stories Blog with some tips and tricks on utilizing 3x4 (or 4x6) Sn@p! Sets cards for die cutting.

Whether you use a digital die cutting machine like the Silhouette Cameo or a manual die cutting machine, I've got some ideas on making the most of your Sn@p! products in non-traditional ways.

Digital die cutting completely changed the way I scrapbook and I can't imagine being without my Silhouette Cameo! And the icing on the cake? Why, the fact that Simple Stories now offers cut files in the Silhouette Store, of course!

I used the following cut files for my first project share today, a layout utilizing eight different designs!

I used some of the cut files "as is" and some files I altered to fit my layout needs.

I'll show you how in the accompanying video.

I used the polaroid die cuts to "frame up" my page, with a title and journaling in the center of my layout. By layering the die cut polaroids with Sn@p! 3x4 Cards, I was able to create a cohesive page with simple layers and lots of color. 

For my card, I used a metal balloon die in a manual die cutting machine (the Sizzix Big Shot) to die cut balloon shapes from the Birthday 3x4 Sn@p! cards. 

Adding detail to the die cuts with Glossy Accents, a glitter marker and string make these die cuts a cut above the rest! ;)

Lawn Fawn February Inspiration Week | Hello Sunshine Paper Collection

Today I've got a summer themed layout share showcasing the new Lawn Fawn Hello Sunshine Paper Collection, Hello Sunshine Flair and Hello Shine Sequins! 

I also used the frame die cut from the Lawn Fawn #awesome Die Collection, the Spring Showers Die Collection, Hello Scripty Die and Cole's ABC's Die Collection. Lots and lots of amazing Lawn Fawn action going on! 

For basically being such a simple layout in design this page and I had major creative differences and it took three tries to get it just how I wanted it. Truth be told, the finished page is close to my original sketch design that I initially wanted to do but I kept trying to not use the #awesome Die Collection since that isn't one of the "new" products that we are using for February Inspiration Week. But after two other failed layout tries, I said "to hell with it" and went ahead with my original plan. I should have saved myself the time and energy and just done that in the first place! ha!

The #awesome Die Collection frames are 2.5" square and perfect for Instagram type of photos! To make my frames a bit more substantial, I die cut 5 layers and glued them one on top of another for each frame creating a thicker more "chipboard style" frame. Of course the awesome Lawn Fawn Hello Sunshine Paper Collection die cut frame is the top layer on each. I decided to keep the colors of the frames to the stripe pattern, blues and gray dot for consistency and I'm glad I did. I added in the rest of the colors elsewhere in the design.

I used the Hello Scripty Die and Cole's ABC's Die Collection to create my page title. I die cut them once from the Lawn Fawn Hello Sunshine Paper Collection and then once from black cardstock. The black cardstock behind the letters helps make the title really pop!

I used the inside piece die cut from the #awesome Die Collection for my journaling. I simply die cut the rounded square, ran it through my printer and then placed it behidn the frame! Love that the paper has the sun design in the background which really compliments and coordinates with the page!

I used the same technique for the die cut sunshine from the Spring Showers Die Collection and used 5 layers to give it a more substantial look and feel. I added one of the Hello Sunshine Flair badges to the center and used some vellum die cut clouds to finish the embellishment. Some Freckled Fawn wood flags tucked behind the sunshine add a bit of fun and variety.

I love, love, love the large polka dot paper in the Lawn Fawn Hello Sunshine Paper Collection but couldn't make it work for my page as it was so instead I used a 1" circle punch and punched out some of the dots and sprinkled them throughout the design for pops of color and to add to the "water" theme! I finished them off with some Hello Shine Sequins!

Hey everyone!

Today I have a new layout showcasing Kerri Bradford's digital cut files. One of my favorite ways to scrapbook older photos from my pre-digital days is to frame them up. Because I can't alter these photos in editing software framing takes the emphasis off the less than perfection of the photos and allows for the memories and emotion to take center stage. I used an older cut file Kerri created for the Silhouette Store (Design ID #5265) on my page to frame up these photos of my oldest son when he was little with my mom. *I did alter the cut file a bit and made the frames more square than rectangular to work with my photos and page design better.*

The title, "Kiss Kiss, love you." inspired the direction of the page. I combined the two phrases ("Kiss Kiss" from Kerri's February Fourteen Kit and the "love you." is one of her FREE cut files found HERE.). A good title often can make or break a page. In this case it gave my page direction and everything just came together so easily!

I only had three photos for the six frames so I filled the open frames with die cut embellishments that helped tell my story. Hearts (from Kerri's brand new Just My Type Kit) and the camera (from her Design Secrets Class) make for fun embellishments.

I used an Ali Edwards circle stamp from her Tick Tock Stamp Set on the center die cut of the camera and some Studio Calico Kit stamps above and below. Hero Arts Soft Granite and Simon Says Stamp Sea Glass Inks perfectly matched the papers in my layout!

I used another Studio Calico stamp in my journaling. I love adding touches of stamping to journaling. I feel it adds character to the layout and ties the journaling into the page design.

I love the shape of the heart in one of the designs in Kerri's new Just My Type Kit and I cut three hearts in varying sizes, embellishing them with stamping, enamel dots and a clip to make them fun! The "You've Captured My Heart" stamped phrase is from one of my favorite new stamp sets from My Favorite Things, Picture This. The love definition (pictured above) is from Wplus9's Defining Words Stamp Set. I wanted the text to be a bit lighter on this so I used MFT's new Grout Gray Ink to stamp the definition.
